Spatts, If I send You

Spatts, I am having a hard time finding someone at my local Gym That I trust to make sure form is correct on mainly Squats and Deads. I have been lurking and watching alot of the more experienced Guys (Don't have any BB or PL Gals in the Gym) To find someone who has the same approach. But no luck. I squat with wide stance, I would venture to say Sumo and I also deadlift the same way. I am yet to find someone in the Gym that Does the same with free weights.

And believe it or not more of the older BB type are using the Damn Smith Machine. They look at me like I am stupid when I start loading up plates on the squat rack. My husband wants me to go talk to The owner of the Gym that also does Personal Training but she also uses the Smith for both Squats and Deads.

I am squatting around 165 right now for 10 reps and I would like to go up on the weights but quite frankly I am not sure my form is correct, and I don't want to hurt my back or anything else.

Well my question to you is if I can come up with some kinda way that I can get some pics or even a video of me squating and possibly DL would you take a look at it? I know that a pic is not the best method but I am running into a wall here and I feel Like my progress is stalled because I am afraid with bad form I will hurt myself. I am up for any suggestions, critisim you throw my way. I have to this point winged it. My husband has guided me through upper body but Squats and Deads are not his cup of tea.

Any bit of advice would be greatful and appreciated...

BTW, Spatts, When doing the video (hopefully) or pics should keep the weight minimal or do my normal routine? And what camera angle is best or should I take a couple?

SouthernBell

I'd like to see one with just the bar, and one with weight. Sometimes form changes as the weight goes up. Also, if you can do a straight side view so I can see your Q-angle (hip/knee/ankle), that would help. It would also help to have a back view so I can see your bar placement and grip.

:D

Nonerez, I know It is sooo hard to watch her come in with some newbee and start training don't get me wrong she has an absoutly great body if yo want to be about 100 lbs wet. She is a very tiny person. One reason I don't have her training me I don't think she would be much of a spotter. I asked for a advice one time and when she said "You mean you are doing that with free weights?" I was totally turned OFF and AWAY fast.

On my first day at the Gym when she was kinda showing me around all the machines and how to set them one particular exercise stuck in mind was the Wide Lat Pull Down. She started my weight at 10lbs... When I went to pull down I nearly pulled it off the bench It was sooo light after upping it to 70lbs she looked at me like I was crazy. :D Boy did that feel great..... :D . We don't have many heavy lifters at my Gym... I lift heaver than some of the Guys there.;) You should see the look on their faces when I add more plates than them.... And keep in mind I am by no means Spatts Strong..... But working on it.:p

 Smith Machine

"Dude, did you ever see that scene from Scanners where the guy's head blows up?"

hey I hear you SB! after my DL yesterday, I watched a couple of guys do SLDL's with 10-15 lbs on each side! I was secretly enjoying my studliness! They were kinda staring at me because I was grunting a little bit...he he he!

okay, 10 lbs on the lat pull down?! What a joke...and probably not very exciting for you as well. I like feeling strong enough to move some decent weight around in the gym.

Yep 10 lbs and that was only part of the story... My moto is pack it on make me grunt.... lol My hubby laughs at the faces I make:mad:

One instance my hubby was working out with me and we went to the high row machine and they had a 45 on each side, the guy that was on it was getting off and when he saw me going to sit down he told hubby "here let me get those off for ya!! But hubby said no man that ok that is what I am gonna start her off with. The damn ignorant guy laughed:mad: ... But I was the one laughing last when I added 10lbs for the next set and then 10lbs for the set after that. Not all that much weight but It was still more than hime.... Needless to say he disappeared into the Dressingroom :FRlol:

Yep went something like that. Then he got as far away from me as possible. He prolly couldn't take the look I was giving him;) ...

LOL

Lobo, I don't have any particular GYM shoes. I usually wear my typical running shoes, only because I cardio after. Should I get different Shoes for Weightlifting? If so what impact does my shoes have on upperbody if any, or is this just for squats and deads GM etc.... If a good pair of shoes will up my squats I am all Game...;)

SouthernBell

Spatts, Guide me, where exactly do I get these at. The local sporting good stores don't have anything pertaining to weightlifting shoes. only boxing and karate. Is there a website or something?

SB

Ohh Chuck Taylors, I believe I have read you speaking of these before.

So Ya think I can Get two different colors for old times Sake:rainbow: . :D I was thinking maybee green and black..

SB

I'd go with high because you're going to need the ankle support if you're "speading the floor." ;)

Yeah...those are like the oly shoes that help you keep balance in an ATF squat. If I squatted in those I'd fall forward!

I guess I am gonna have to pull out the old baggies for leg day... I don't think the high tops are gonna hit it with the running shorts. lol.... :mix:

Nonerez, I had the neon pink and neon green. Converse was the stuff back then who'd of ever known what they could do for your squat....

Spatts, I have been terribly delayed this week, I have had to take the entire week off so this will prolly be done on the weekend.

But I have a problem, I have a HI-8 videocam which is capable of doing small clips but my damn outdated computer has no way of accepting them. No firewire nothing.. Would it be a problem to get it to you VIA mail a P.O. box or something? If it would be then maybe I could just stick with pictures. I can video then watch and capture pic's right off the video so I will be able to get them close together.

Since I'm spatts' video/technical monkey, I'll jump in here...

You can capture individual frames off videotape, but not the full motion video? What kind of connection does it use for that?

This one day I decided to go do my weights in the morning when it's not busy. There's the "old people" that hit the gym at 5 am in the morning.

I was waiting for the Leg Press and this old man was doing like 125 lbs. on it. He finished and then watched me add 175 lbs. to it and then announced to the whole gym that I could lift 300 lbs.

It was embarrassing... Not that I can lift that much, but that he yelled it so loud.

And it was only my warmup set.

I am sorry I must have wrote it wrong. I can do a full move but just can't get it to the Computer. I don't have a connection in my computer to capture the video. My booklet tells me I need a firewire connection which my computer doesn't have.

Maybe you can hint me in to how exactly I can get it on the Comp.

I have a Sony Hi-8 I use the memory stick to transfer pics from the video cam to my computer with a memory stick reader. So I do not directly connect to the computer with my video recorder. If you know of some other way to do this please let me know..

Gotcha, okay. I was wondering if that's how you were set up.

No, unfortunately, there's not a way to do it without adding hardware. It'd be about $100 to add that capability, but it's probably not worth it if you're not going to be editing a lot of video.

I'll defer to spatts on how she wants to proceed from here.

Spatts, I am bumping this up just to let you know that I will go ahead and send you the pics first. If the pics are not enough information then I will try and get a video over. I will PM you to let you know when I have them all done. I need to find some one to video for me.

Thanks
