I like my wife's family. Sure, her extended family is weird as all fuck (being filipino and all) but her parents and brother (and his family) are good eggs.
In the year or two after we graduated college and I was away, my wife's parents helped us financially every now and again if it was needed. Thats why, over the past few years as their financial situation has worsened, I've been more than happy to put them up when they come into town, pay for their meals when we go out, etc. Her brother, who's 35, married, and has two legit kids, always seemed to do pretty well too. Which is why I was surprised when he called us about 6 weeks ago and asked to borrow a few grand. His mortgage check was in danger of bouncing in 2 days, needed some funds just until his next payday which was in a week and a half (for food, bills), etc.
So the next morning I got my ass to Western Union and paid a hundred bucks or so in fees to get him the money right away. So his next payday comes and goes. Wheres the money, my wife asks him. Can it wait until next payday? Sure, why not.
Next payday comes and goes. Still need another week or two. Fine.
My wife starts riding his ass, and finally he says hes going to send us a check. He asks how much we sent him again, so my wife reminds him. He says that after the conversion (he lives in Canada) it came out to be a bit less. I told him I dont care...that since he's the one who borrowed money from me, he would pay back what I sent him in US dollars along with the Western Union fees I paid.
So he says fine, and emails the next day saying he sent a check. For the total amount, my wife asks? Nah, for half. While my wife is on the phone with him lecturing him, Im sitting at the computer on Facebook just dicking around. I come by his status update:
"Just booked trip to Vegas. SO EXCITED!!!"
Mother fucker Im going to kill you.
