Something disturbingly different for C&C - let's talk about "working out"!!

Give me a progress report/status update. What is current split, what are your goals, what is lagging, what is looking good, what do you need help with, etc, etc.

Pictures always welcome. Just not from me.

lol.

So what's keeping you from doing what you gotts do, Ortiz? Work, life (those goddamn things always get in the way....)?

Well, to be honest since January I have dropped 12-14 lbs. It's just I went on vacatioon and over indulged a bit. Going back to the cardio for 45 minutes per day and hitting the ground running.

working out at the hotel gym just...isnt working out. i jugglhe heaviest weight in the house, im fucking bored stupid, im losing size, im losing stamina, and its overall a disaster. to make matters worse, some nitwit was drinking in the fucking pool and now the bastard super has locked it after 10 30pm, which is severely affecting my late night smooching sessions in the fucking sauna, and they arent processing my letter of complaint (read: death threats) fast enough

im up 3lbs and i feel like a fat bastard. it sucks. my avatar is barely a month old and already im thinking 'good old days' when i look at it

Oh, no biggie then. It happens to all of us, I hate that shit. A day or two of eating like a soklules seems to negate 3 months of work in the gym. But it's mostly mental.

Fuck man. How does looking/feeling better equate to increased insecurity? lol. I guess once you see the good, even a glimpse of the bad seems monumental.

Life tends to mess me up......My training includes...running, cycling and swiming.....running trying to get my LDr up in miles and do some speed training....Current goals....couple tri's, trail runs and 1/2 marathon by September

Isn't there a gym near your new place? You are pretty fat bro.

My problem is I still try to train like a fighter with about 2% of the time I need to train.

Too difficult to lift heavy enough to body build AND do enough cardio to get and stay ripped.

motivation and dedication is not the problem, its lack of time.

REALLY good. Started a new split a few weeks ago which involves lifting heavier and more often to really test everything out. So far it's been nothing short of excellent. Just gotta keep plugging along. :) Thanks

I'm training for the npc eastern seaboard figure comp in may. I'm doing 45 min cardio sessions 6 days a week and lifting (split bod parts) 5 night a week. Since I have mini me at night and her studies are critical (she's gotta be a genuis like me when she grows up) I've been doing my cardio on my lunch break at work every day so I can get in the gym, lift, squat til i puke then jet home.

I've feelin' really good about where I'm at right now so in 8 weeks I should be good to go.

QUARTER TURN TO THE RIGHT BEYOTCH!

Oh man, I couldn't have planned that better :rainbow:

I'm just finishing up a "bulk" in the next few weeks, not so much to gain muscle but to increase my bench. I started using a 5x5 with 315 and now I'm doing 5x5 with 335.

My current split, no direct bicep or tricep work and all large compound movements.
Day 1 Chest
Day 2 Back
Day 3 Legs
Day 4 Off
Day 5 Chest
Day 6 Back
Day 7 Legs

My progress pictures. I started weighing 240 lbs @ 5'10"

Been working out over 28 years now. I just recently hit 220 lbs., my highest weight ever at 5'9". I'm still gaining muscle mass and I'm going on 43 years of age. I work out each bodypart less than 1 time a week. I focus very well. I have no idea why I continue to gain mass except that I eat a lot and have a very good cook. I'll give the credit to God. I can't believe I've attained this much mass from how skinny I was as a kid.

How does one go about working each bodypart "less than 1 time a week"??

I appear to be having trouble getting rid of my soft spots on my sides :( Very fustrated!! I am feeling and seeing a difference everywhere but there it appears. Just gotta keep pluggin away at my diet and I have recently increased cardio by including a spin class once to twice a week. Thinking about also getting into more classes...maybe the gutbuster class :worried:
I so need to get me a trainer!! But the one at my gym, well....not so sure about him..used him twice and he didn't prove to be very helpful.

Very easily. I work out 2 to 3 times per week, but I often skip days so that it ends up that I work each bodypart less than once per week. I think the extra rest does me good. This shit isn't a science like some want to make it. I've tried all kinds of ways of working out and I overtrained for many years. What works best is individually based.

Honestly, you have a WEALTH of knowledge and experience here at EF that makes ANY trainer seem useless (even though that is not hard to do...). Read, read, read, search, read, ask, read more and then do.

are you doing any weight training?

i've been lifting for about a month after taking a long ass break from it....longer than I'd care to mention. So, I'm feeling pretty awesome...strength is coming back quickly. I do a DFHT type routine.

I'll probably post some pics in a few weeks, once I lose a bit of the winter insulation.

Does "working out" mean taking stuff from your job and completing it outside or something?

That's what got me coming here....someone at my gym recommended to me. I have learned so much but it is one thing to read it and having someone there at the gym to tell you what machines do what and how to use them. I find I steer away from some because I'm just not sure.
I have learned tons of things I didn't know from the women fitness forum. I am getting there like I said, just not as fast as I had hoped and I plan on posting pics (before & after) in about a month or so. I will be where I wanna come bikini weather!!! :)

Can I take steroids without working out at all? Oh and can I drink winny?

Things are, for the most part going well - in the gym six days a week with zero motivational issues. In fact I have to force myself to take that seventh day off. But my quest for the perfect butt is more difficult than anticipated. I find myself relying on my quads for almost every exercise designed to - at least in part - work the glutes and I feel like nothing is getting done no matter how much I try and "concentrate" on isolating/using my glutes. I learned how to squat recently (please don't laugh), but I am too much of a wimp to try and use the rack at the gym in the midst of all the beefcakes three times my size lifting hundreds of pounds. I know it's ridiculous, but I can be shy even if I could get past the embarrassment over the weight I'd be lifting, the idea of doing an exercise that involves thrusting my heiny out in the middle of all that testosterone makes me blush. I just need to suck it up and get over it.

I am redefining my goals right now. No competitions for me in the near future my body needs a break from extreme cutting so I am going at a slower pace. I been following a split since January that a trainer put together for me but started to deviate from it yesterday. I rack dead lifted for the first time since December made some serious PR’s yesterday
225 x 12 <<<< could have done 20 of these was shocked how easy it went up
275 x 8
295 x 3 <<< I might have gotten more reps but Ik new I wanted to try 315
315 x 2 <<<< If someone would have been watching I might have done one more. I need a cheering section.

Before I even dared try deadlifting in the gym I used a broom at home in front of a mirror. There was no shame in that or what you are experiencing.

Damn dude, thats what I call starting slow and easy.

Thanks for sharing that. It helps to know that even guys get self conscious about that kind of thing.

I've been practicing with the 45lb bar back in the women's "area" to make sure my form is correct on all counts, and I can add a light amount of weight before I don't have the upper body stength to lift it over my head and onto my shoulders. Now, to do anything that will amount to progress, I'll need to use the rack. Again...I just need to get over myself and do it.

From someone who always had back problems, I wanted to know FOR SURE that I had the correct form down. If more meatheads did that, we'd have less injuries and better results....

I train 4-5 days per week, the whole time I was in the marines I floated around 200lbs, now that Im out now & dont have to go on death runs and get my dick ran into the dirt everyday, I managed to bulk up to a little over 220lbs.

I soooo know what you mean...I was always intemidated to use the squat machine and some others because they are in the back with all the big boys...no women ever go back there!! It is aggravating. I do go back there when fiesty and here beau go...still am such a weakling in comparison to most.
Very happy with my legs, that (and my boobs :) ) are my best features.
<------wants J-Lo booty but right now...more like typical white girl...flat pancake...lol

I have been having lots of trouble targeting my abs

Excersise.jpg

lol

..out of the gym for about a month due to work, relocation etc.

Fat as f*ck.

i exercise every day. i pretty much always look the same. lean, almost ripped, but not very muscular, really. i'm somewhat content to stay about the way i am.

I'm jacked and getting more insane everyday, up 10lbs of muscle since Dec., its crazy what flinstone vitamins can do. I welcome you to visit for a workout...let me know. My gym is literally behind the green monster...there are like 10 clubs surrounding it (landsdowne st.).;

We're soul sisters on this one. I have what I used to not-so-fondly refer to as "ballerina flat ass," and my legs are easily the best bodily feature.

I also call that part of the gym the "big boy" area, and I've observed long enough to know that there is only one regular female who goes back there and she's some 40 something leather face who goes back and does...crunches? on the bench press benches while flirting with guys younger than me.

I ran cross country and worked out all through school and up until I had my son......yes, it was a long time ago but my legs had never really gotten out of shape....I think wearing 3-4 inch heels helps :)

My workouts are going well -- when I have them. It's mid-terms for me and school comes first. Stressed out, don't feel like eating, so eating seems like a chore, but I do it.

lift 4 times a week and cardio 4-5 days in the AM 30 min with optional walks in the evening to burn extra cals if I want.

Progress has not stalled yet....... average loss of about 1.25 lb a week with a whole cheat day but diet is good other days. Trying to cut back on drinking but thats the hardest thing for me to do. lol. Everything else is easy.

I'm just trying to get toned.

going alright....
m-chest/back
t-legs/lower back
w-shoulders or take day off
th-shoulders if I took W. off or a little bit of arm workout
f-abs/lower back
s-my ass is out biking if the weather is nice, if not a light leg workout.

some weeks if I work extra overtime, only lift three times/week.

squats are going good right now, 315 X 9. I want that 10th rep sooooooo badly.... argh!! I have the leg strength for it, but my back is what is lacking here I think. Deadlifted 410 for 3 last week, that felt good. But not the next couple of days.

Pumping 120 lb db's for 12 on flat. 6 on incline now. that should probably be higher... thinking about sticking to 100's on inlcine for higher reps.

225 X 6 on seated military. highest that's ever been.

I'm now waiting on the flu, a car wreck or anything to derail my progress.... happens every year.

I've lost close to 15% BF in the last 7 months, so now I'm working mostly on core, ROM, and flexibility. When it gets warmer out, I'll do track workouts twice a week. I'm in the gym 5 days per week, and work one body part out twice a week. So, chest & bi's, back & tri's, legs, shoulders, then chest & bi's. The next week back would be twice, etc. I've lost the fat, now I want to feel fit again.

Here's a before & after, I'm leaner now though.

nice job hun...looking good

Smoochathons in the sauna are hot.

Well, I spoke too soon about motivational issues. It's snowing, I haven't gotten more than three hours of sleep each of the last three nights, and I am seriously dragging ass right now. I basically have one of two choices - keep with my schedule and pass out in the middle of my date on Friday night, or take tonight or Thursday off and go to sleep early. Poor guy is going to be in for some shitty company, I guess.

Currently I am in week 6 of an HST program.

Alternating workouts between these two groups

Group 1
ATF Squats
Barbell Bent-Over Rows
BarBell Bench Press
Seated Shoulder Press
Shrugs
Dips
Seated dumbbell curls

Group 2
Deadlift
Reverse grip cable pulldowns
Incline Bench
Upright Row
DumbBell Pullovers
Isolation Curls

Todays workout is Group 2,

DL 5 x 5 x 345
Cable Pulldowns 5 x 5 x 165
Incline Bench 5 x 5 x 195
Upright Row 5 x 5 x 95
Dumbell Pullovers 5 x 5 x 90
Isolation Curls 5 x 5 x 45

The weights will progress another 10% before I complete this series, I'll deload for a week and drop weights back about 40% and return to 2 sets of 15 for two weeks, then 3 sets of 10 for two weeks and back to 5 x 5 steadily increasing weights each day until my last day will be about 5% higher than my previous best 5 x 5.

My workouts are pretty basic now.

3 workouts a week hitting each bodypart once focusing on progression of weights. Each workout only lasts around 40 minutes.

I wasted 2 years searching for the "magic program."

Turns out all I needed to do was focus on getting stronger and eat more.
Who new?

i worked out hard for 1 week, and now im in a slump, and dont wanna spend my weeknights at the gym. ive discovered its tough to make myself go to the gym and only be there for half an hour. when i go there i get obsessed, but then my evening is gone. yay.

in
training hard. holding @ 275 @ 10% right now..ive been busting my ass to bring up my back this year. and it has worked wonders
Been getting ART treatments weekly as well as deep tissue massage. really has been great for handling all the aches and pains.

Word!

I've been working out for 20 years myself but I recently hit 260. But I have never juiced... Using Omegas's stack and some dermacrine , I've lost 6 LB's so were getting more lean mass. Just what I wanted.

I thank GOD as well for good genes and I too was a skinny basketball player / DB 15 years ago

The irony is at your age and with your lack of social skills you will get more friends/girls if you simply get in shape than if you try and get girls without getting in shape. So just get a badass body.

I'm getting back into working out finally... Goals are to at least get back to 260#, if not closer to 275-280#, and maintain a ~10% or less BF. I've done it before, I just need to get motivated. I've been stagnant at 240# (and lazy) for too long.

You do have options my friend.

#1 Begin to romance various female farm animals
#2 Mail order brides
#3 Hookers
#4 Decide to grow up and be a man

tax season is kicking my ass (stress, lack of sleep, not eating enough, etc.). . .i'm still hitting it 5 or 6 times a week (counting cardio-only days) sometimes not until midnight (the gym owner is a friend/client). . .all my lifts are down quite a bit from fall/winter. . .on the bright side my abs are starting to look pretty good already. . .
