If I were to start a side business (interior design) what would you business/accounting/finance mavens suggest?

Something entirely different?

I need a tax ID # as well.

Thoughts, ideas comments?

Big4life - stop smiling like that!

i would say to start off just be a sole proprietor untill you gain a reputation as well as gain a significant amount of capitol/ net cap. then turn it into a limited liablity as to save yourself the trouble in case anything should arise.

LLC... it would cost less from the start and you could come out BIG. That is how to make the impact to get your first big sales.

But in all seriousness.

I can't help you with the question that you asked , but you know what I think.

I think you will do one hell of a job. You already have the talent, the respect of those that you will be dealing with.

Now give yourself some credit, and start to believe in the lady that you see in the mirror. I know her, and she is pretty impressive in so many ways.:)

Velvett,

I would go sole prop in the beginning for several reasons.

1- you will not be double taxed as a sole prop.
2- its cheaper to start.
3- your a designer and generaly speaking alot of your work will be implemented by another company and your risk is somewhat offset.
4- Its cheaper to maintain. There really are not many reasons for having a company of one or two individuals be a corporation.
5- The corporate shield is really not that hard to break, especialy if its just a few people employed by the company.

I know quite a few ID's
