Just dropped off 2 humvees at my work for a thing we're doing for the community this saturday to help gather supplies and donations to send overseas to the troops. Things like gloves, hand warmers, beef jerky, duct tape, blah blah blah.

anyways, they gave me the keys. who wants to go 4-wheelin'?

Why the hell do our troops need duct tape? Seriously? The billions we spend on the military and they can't provide duct tape?
 
there is a lot they need they don't get including body armor etc... its sad but our troops are not as equipped as they should be especially in combat situations.

The money is there, it just doesn't go to them. But do people bitch what happens with their money? Nope! When was the last "Start spending our taxes on soldiers not contractors!" marches?

Asshates respect big business & rich elites and will never dare say anything. Same way they also get fucked over by banks. Way govt thinks: soldiers are expendable and only worth so much $$ on each one. Your govt spends MORE money on equipment for contract security guards than individual soldiers.

not sure what they exactly use it for but some of the vets that are helping us organize this said they use the hell out of it.

we're getting a lot of donations already and it really doesn't officially start until tomorrow. Kinda gives you a good feeling helping the combat troops out.

yeah, my kids school put together 175 care packages...I was impressed given how small their school is


know what else is popular? individual sauce packets...like hot sauce , taco sauce, cheese sauce that kinda thing...a friend of mine just went and raided a taco bell...asked the manager for donations...I suspect it will be rather popular

hand warmers too (afghanistan)...the instant kind you snap that can be used a few times after being boiled
gift cards for places that will deliver like movies and shit to an APO

the fob in iraq is huge.....idk what those guys really need that they can't just buy to be totally honest

good idea on the sauce packets...I'll grab some of those to throw in too!

They mentioned something about the FOB's, can't remember if they weren't that close to them or what the case was but at any rate I think it's the least we can do is send them some shit.

No doubt, I've adopted some soldiers and I was kinda pissed and pleased at the same time for the services they receive these days. I lived on MRE's for six months...The old one's you couldn't heat up and they only had a handful of meals. The highlight of my day was mail call and a letter from home...phone calls and contacts with home other than letters didn't exist.
 
I just re-read my post and decided I need to get my cane and spend all day yelling at kids for walking on my lawn...lol. :)

I didn't see any of these but my husband was actually given rations that had cigarettes in em(vietnam stuffs)...lolol

We didn't have chemical heat packets...of course you could heat it with a non-MRE included heat source...BTW, dehydrated beef patty was the worst ever.

I'm so old scientists hadn't created them yet....


The big problem with the dehydrated beef patty wasn't the concept or the fact it had the worst accessory pack imaginable but that it took a whole canteen to hydrate it....light infantry...we only had two canteens issued.

Well, he might have gotten it because he had tabs near expiration made by the lowest bidder but men take those kinds of risks...

I won't lie that I'm jealous of the benefits soldiers get these days...but I'm mostly happy because I've spent a lot of time lobbying for them.

I never got the whole story as to what happened....I think no one thought to use them because the water was supposed to be clean/filtered anyway...

I know all of his battle buddies have legendary puking shitting, cramping stories from this event

they still try to pass off shit/unapproved meds on soldiers..

hell...I remember my recruiter getting all conspiracy theorist about the vaccines...telling me to get as much paperwork as I could to avoid being shot up with god knows what

the water thing....its not even that...its a non issue

I went with him to all his appointments getting some malabsorption issues sorted out...I just really don't remember the details if he even brought em up

theres a lot he doesn't tell me about deployment...and I don't pry

I think I had an easier time with it all because
a. I overshare anyway, its how I sort bad crap in my head
b. I had a good 5 years of practice dealing with very bad poop in emergency services beforehand, stuff the average person doesn't see or deal with...I knew what to expect
I actually had a much harder time with something pre-enlistment

he opened up to me a little because Im one of the few people that didn't make the dumb mistake of asking "what was it like" and "did you kill anyone"..duh...its fucking war, not a video game

At least you know he was deployed...my ex-wife...re-married with twins knows nothing...Couldn't understand me as much as she demanded it....but I never expected a girl that had two liberal parents and went to liberal Albion university...she was a smoothie girl after graduation at whole foods in Ann Arbor before she followed the dead and sold smoothies...Then she became a total capitalist...

I just don't trust wiminz...I think you're a great gal shirlene, from what I know, but that's how it is...I've been fucked over by men but nothing close to how I've been treated by wiminz....
