So...Jesus had a wife?

A Harvard historian has identified a faded, fourth-century scrap of papyrus she calls "The Gospel of Jesus's Wife." One line of the torn fragment of text purportedly reads: "Jesus said to them, 'My wife …'" The following line states, "she will be able to be my disciple."

Jesus had a wife, newly discovered gospel suggests - Yahoo! News

Interesting.

That was pretty much understood. You don't make to your 30's in those days as a Jew - single. Mary Magdalene was most likely his wife and the re-writers made her a whore to fit her in somewhere. She is in the last supper painting.

Yhe incident at a wedding where Jesus fought with his Mother was most likely his wedding - from what I read…

You were correct on everything accept this^^^

It most certainly has not been understood by anybody accept a very very very small handful of people in the world who are willing to look at reality objectively. Congratulations if you're one of them but in no way shape or form was the fact Jesus was married "implicitly" understood by anyone let alone christians.

Objective reality? What? Lol! I live in a world where professional historians use historiography to sort out what probably happened. There has been no credible historian that would claim Jesus was probably married or that it was "understood" that he was married. There was no evidence, no heaps of legit sources that claim he was married, though now with this piece of evidence (which has no historical significance yet I want to add, it has no authenticity) they might be able to construct something a little differently. We'll have to see what happens with this. It came out of Egypt...it is interesting.

Jesus had many hoes on his tip, with his flowing locks, bulging loan cloth and rippled physique. I am sure that Jesus in many regards was like a modern day SB, except about 70 pounds lighter and less likely to smack a bitch in the mouth.

Read Jesus - ALife by A. N. Wilson then you can so you only know one historian.

yeah and Bill OReilly wrote a book about Lincoln. lololol

At least he admits Jesus existed. Lol. The rest, I'd have to see his sources. Like I said earlier, Jesus wasn't "understood" to be married, like the Christian community was blatantly ignoring direct historical evidence of this obvious marriage.

Not that it matters to me if he was married or not.

I agree with you; I would bet that Jesus had to follow the traditions of his culture to get a large audience. Jesus being celibate would be like an openly gay man leading the religious right. Most modern Christians ignore the fact that even in their teachings he was as much man as divine.

The 'rewriters' didn't make her a whore. lol The Bible doesn't say she was one. Mary Magdelene as a whore didn't come around until hundreds of years after the Bible had been written. And even then, it was only implied by the Catholic Church, it wasn't added to the Bible or anything.

The Vatican redacted the stance, but they were 1000 years too late, and her 'whore' title had already been so embedded in culture that people like to forget that that's not real.

I'm gonna be serious for 5 seconds and say that The Rible does not speak of Jesus having a wife, so I am fairly certain that Jesus never married. Besides Jesus knew for what purpose he had been sent, to have married would have just made things more difficult when the time had come for him to be crucified. Logically a man would not put a wife in that situation. I'm sure all this conjecture is raised from logic, Mary M was always around, so naturally she was his wife. I really don't think so, but whatever.

When you die, go ask him and report back.

You keep popping your mouth off at me and you gonna get to find out before I do.

"The Bible doesn't say, so therefore he can't be married."

Sorry, but that's an illogical conclusion based upon the Bible not saying one way or the other.

The fact that scripture does not speak of Jesus being married or not doesn't mean he wasn't married conclusively.

If you ask me, given the amount of clues in the scriptures, I find it more rational to assume that he was married.

First off, when Jesus ressurected, the first person he appeared to was a woman, Mary. He instructed her to not touch him because had not yet ascended to the Father post-ressurection. This possibly refers to an intimate embrace as opposed to the touch of an acquaintance.

There are several things that allude to Christ being married. Polygamy, believe it or not, was present in the 1st century christian church, and secular history proves that. The Bible alludes to it as well.

God commanded man to multiply and replenish the earth. Jesus, while on earth was a mortal man, and if any one was to follow God's command to cleave unto a wife and become one flesh, it was Jesus.

Besides that, modern revelation given by God confirms that Christ was indeed married.

To conclude that he was not married is less rational than to assume that he was. The only "evidence" people use is that the Bible does not blatantly point it out, which is not "evidence" at all.

Based on history, the clues hinted at in scripture, and since modern revelation says it is so, I full heartedly believe he was married.
