Naaaaaaaaaaaahhhh

While I do know that I have above average IQ (both IQ and emotional IQ) I do also recognize that I know so little when it comes to how much there is to know.

My husband is absofukkinlutely brilliant, though... He just needs me to spank his ass on occasion when he "gets dumb." LOL

As I said to some very powerful businessmen recently as they were complimenting my skills.

"Gentlemen, it is my husband who made me and not the other way around."

I am very fortunate that HE was smart enough to see my value when I had no clue.

A wife with a penis ROCKS. LOL

True story:

1. chemistry GENIUS can manipulate any product that he manufactures to meet client specs - ALL TOTALLY environmentally friendly products that actually do what they are supposed to do - clean shit/shine shit/put out fires.

2. MBA with 20+ years experience in corporate America - has made a ton a dough - knows all about business plans and how to do all sorta fancy spreadsheets.

Yet their business is 6 weeks from closing their doors after 3 years of trying to make a buck.

3. MBA with 20+ years experience as an entrepeneur plus his wife who only completed 2 years undergrad and been his protege for bout 2 years.

Now company X that was 6 weeks from closing it's doors have a private label deal with one of the largest custom motor cycle franchises in the United States and stands to become multi-billion dollar global presence.

Question is, who is smartest?

1, 2 or 3? :qt:
Depends on who it is that you're asking the question of? One thing this thread has re-emphasized to me is that since I openly admit I only went to a computer programming school which worked out to some college credits, but I don't remember how many anymore, there are plenty of people on this board who probably have decided that I am, at best, an articulate idiot.

500?
It's going to be as you say in less than 50 years.
Kids are not encouraged or taught to focus on their EQ strengths
Schools should be like a season of Survivor. That is a sure way to build kids with common sense and "real life" strengths

I used to feel intimidated that I never finished college. Two years, completed the core curriculum but never finished, got married to my loser ex instead (Yes. I know... DUMB MOVE).

Now the circles I travel in, no one ever asks where either my husband or I went to school or what degree we do or do not possess as it doesn't fukkin matter.

What matters is that we are both bright and honorable. Our word is our bond. And We ALWAYS perform.

You have no idea how much of a mindfuck it was to me when my husband first started taking me to every single business meeting/lunch whathaveyou. I sat and kept quiet for the most part and just smiled a lot. God, was that like FOREVER ago............ I have to say that back in the day when I used to support my girls in a thong bikini it did give me a certain rush to captivate men AND women because of my exterior alone. There is power there. But it ain't NUTHIN like the power I feel when I know that I can hold my own in any sort of encounter whether it is in the board room or over cocktails and dinner at some swanky shee-shee place or wearing jeans and T-shirts while drinking diet coke - (lotta old schoolers don't drink when they ride anymore).... Now whether I am talking publishing my children's books, promoting a new start-up or just talking bout dumb shit for laughs... NO ONE INTIMIDATES ME... EVER.

Sorta neat gettin older.... :qt:

Even neater when your ass don't! :lmao:

:whatever: Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I've taken a lot of orders from a lot of dumb son of a bitches, both male and female, who had more "book learning" than I did and if it wasn't for me and people like me they wouldn't be able to tie their own shoes.

I've also observed that the higher levels of education a person achieves the more they discount the value of the opinions of people who didn't acquire that level of education, you start encountering more and more academic snobbery.

Be that it may, it's my personal observation that the general overall intellectual "fluidity" of America is becoming increasing stagnant. By that I mean that natural selection has been eliminated, no longer weeding out the inferior intellect (which used to die of mishap, generally through their own stupidity) and they are, in fact, breeding in higher numbers than the supposed "better minds." Meanwhile, we increasingly reward minds that are very good at retaining an awful lot of information about a comparatively narrow field. We reward people who are good at learning information in a certain prescribed manner but not the ones that think "outside the box." We do not acknowledge creative use of intellect within the public educational system, and the student who may be quite bright but doesn't necessarily have a good rote memory or isn't mathematically strong is often overlooked and rarely encouraged.

I'd be very interested to see what the society is going to be like in another say 500 years.

In another 2 generations there will be not one person that can spell, count or have an intelligent conversation. Words like reconversate a numerous other "new" words that are commonly used by the 20 somethings are replacing real words.

In 500 years the only things that are going to be around are old xbox and whatever replaces them. The kids of today spend more time in front of a flat screen than walking, playing or going to class. The "educated" college grads can't even figure out WTF they need to do to complete any task in the real world.

I have interveiwed dozens of them and am truly amazed that they can breath and walk at the same time, the brain cells must have been running on autopilot for those functions. Because they have no ability to think, react to real time situations or solve problems that weren't part of an "exercise" in school, but IRL we hardly ever have to figure out which train got to Chicago after 4 stops traveling at 50 MPH. I just read the schedule.

i think public schools need to stop trying to teach kids about going into the real world and focus more on actually teaching.....

I do believe, MM that you are most likely one of the most brilliant individuals on EF or anywhere for that matter.

But I've already told ya that... many times.
My dear lady you both honor and flatter me.

The absolute truth is I'm not academically minded and never was. While I have a wide variety of interests and a smattering of a LOT of information, I'm not in any way an expert on anything. I have good vague recall of information, but a very poor recall of specifics and I am truly mathematically challenged (checkbook balancing is all I can handle and that with a spreadsheet. I need my fingers to count exact change at the counter, which is why I only carry limited amounts of cash).

I was a very good student when it came to art and literature, but with a very poor memory my test scores on anything that was purely factual were barely average. I was the student who prayed for essay questions.

None of that really matters though...

I would rather sit and converse with you about everything and nothing for hours on end then 99% of the rest of the population. And I have the impression that I could most likely trust you with near my darkest deepest secrets.

Maybe I am not so smart afterall, but that IS the impression that I get.

I crave witty and insightfull conversation I think just about as much as I do genuine affection.

So now, when you find BOTH in a single body - THAT is wonderful. Does that make me or that other person "the smartest"?

Don't think so. But does that REALLY MATTER at the end of the day?

.... LOL Maybe I am just too damned simple to look at it any other way. :)

Well know that I genuinely appreciate what you, and the Grump, and other's have said to me on the boards and in k and PMs :qt:

I think part of my frustration with the "conventional" method of education, the method that rewards a good memory and good math skills, is that the students who don't necessarily have such easily quantifiable skills often get pigeon-holed. I wanted, very much, to move into upper level English classes, but they used the same test to gauge your abilities, a standard I.Q. test that was heavily weighted with math and spacial reasoning. I tested poorly. As a result I was bored to tears in some classes and frustrated in the other classes.

I appreciate it Milo, but I only know a little about a few things.

I am not trying to piss people off. I just speak my mind and avoid pc or catering to someone else's feelings like the plague. If my views piss a few people off, then they do.

The abuse and complete disregard of language and grammar sickens me. People have no, literally NO idea in the power of words. There is more truth, on multiple levels moving all the way to the etheric and metaphysical, to the statement "The pen is mightier than the sword," than people realize.

I find texting, IMs (and even cell phones and faxes to a degree), offensive. People don't take their communication seriously anymore. They do not respect the power their words (hence, their thoughts) have.

I've read letters written by common Civil War soldiers, just every day farm folk mind you, to their families. The eloquence of speech and the elegance of the language and grammar is striking. Compare that to the garbage that passes as written communication today and I think perhaps Bluebird is right and my estimates of the devolution of humanity's intellect may very well be off by a power of ten. It seems the easier it's become to communicate, the less it's valued, and the quality of use and respect of language erodes.

Granted, I'm as guilty as everyone else, since I type for a living I've virtually lost the capacity to handwrite (I just don't have the fine motor control anymore), but I do sincerely try to craft the content of my emails and my posts with an eye to some degree of respect for the language as well as the reader's sensibilities.

Have you ever had someone stop you in mid sentence and say, "I don't know what that word means?" and it's a relatively common word, not specialist language? *shakes head* that's just sad. True, I'd rather they actually ask me what the word means, but by the same token it's axiomatic of the progressive "loss" of the written word. Pop culture is turning language into mental junk food.

I think the trophy wives are pretty smart, actually. They snagged the American dream by hook or crook, as they say. How many beautiful women do you see living in terrible places and being abused? Plenty. The smarter ones did better for themselves.

I would like to see schools get back to the basics of teaching English, math, science, history, etc. I will teach my son values and about going out in the real world. I agree with you.

Giving the way you write, you probably do think you are rich. Anyway, might want to take some of the money and take some grammar lessons.

webster's adds "new" words to the language every year
remember "normalcy"?

A neologism is a word, term, or phrase that has been recently created (or "coined"), often to apply to new concepts, to synthesize pre-existing concepts, or to make older terminology sound more contemporary. Neologisms are especially useful in identifying inventions, new phenomena, or old ideas that have taken on a new cultural context. The term e-mail, as used today, is an example of a neologism.

Neologisms are by definition "new", and as such are often directly attributable to a specific individual, publication, period, or event. The term "neologism" was itself coined around 1800, so in the early 19th century, the word "neologism" was itself a neologism.
