then perhaps she's incompetent when it comes to her love life i.e. she's terrible at making those choices of who to date. some people (men and women) are very high functioning, intelligent folks who seem to have thei heads on straight, yet they are totally inept at matters of the heart (dating/choosing a partner. etc)

Based on what I understand of her story, the problem is with availability. It's like the old song "Where have all the good men gone?"

She's tried Internet dating (Jewish, etc) and can't seem to find alot of people.

She's a nice girl, but I keep thinking would I want a serious relationship with this chick and I'm afraid that my answer would likely be no. A FB at best, but that's about it.

I also think geographical location has a lot to do with it. Maybe she's living/looking in the wrong area. You really need to improve your odds when you do this. You can go all year long to the local grocery store all dolled up, but if you live in Mayberry, you won't get too far.

IMO it is negative it is like you think people can't find love after a certain age or something but I have seen in real life tons of examples and on this board BM and Grumpy are a great example.

i didnt say anything about love, and also, i didnt say that it was impossible to get into a viable relationship later in life - i just said that it was harder.

...which is something youre supporting with this very post because youre talking about the BM grump situation as the exception, and not the rule

We dated 15 years ago for a short time. Hooked up was more like it. It turned out that we work better as friends then anything else. Maybe that memory still has an imprint on me today.

Besides, the few times I see her a year, she tells me about other men and the bad relationships she has with them. Given her bio clock is ticking, I think it's making her more desperate.

My cat only loves me when I'm feeding him, giving him fresh water, cleaning his pooper or when he's puking and doesn't feel good.
