nah i dont leave it chambered.. i was just wondering if anyone does that..
my glock .40 is chambered and ready to rock at any given moment. all i have to do is take it out of the holster and point. Why are you so afraid of somebody breaking into your house? I lived in a rough neighbourhood where my car got broken into almost on a monthly basis, but keeping a gun never even occured to me.

I grew up with my parents telling me to stay the f--- out of there bedroom. I can seriously count the number of times I was in my parents bedroom, that is how my house will be! As for keeping one in I see no problem with it as long as the people in the house know(ie wife ect). If you have kids then they 1. better know to say away from where you keep the loaded weapon and 2. better know to stay away from all your weapons period. I grew up on a ranch in the middle of nowhere. I was hunting by myself by 4 years old but knew better than to mess with my dad's weapons, I had no reason to I had my own.

If you "accidentaly" discharge your firearm you sir are a moron and should not have a firearm. Gun's dont just up and fire, you have to pull the TRIGER. Your hand should never even be in the trigger well unless you've positively identified your target, PERIOD. If it's guns that cause crime then spoons are the reason Rosie Odonnel is fat.

Then one night my GF came over unexpected. She tried calling but my cell battery was dead. She has a key and came on in. I was watching a movie in my bedroom and have a kick arse theater setup. It was loud and I did not hear her until she was near the bedroom.
It seemed like it took an eternity to react and even longer to actually get to my gun (which I never got to before she was in the bedroom).
From that moment on I keep my gun next to the bed. Unchambered though.

Locked and cocked! thats how more and more firearms are designed to be carried. I got my CCW and everywhere I go I carry a loaded .45 and I also sleep with it above my head everynight. WHY? because Ive been in many situations where one was needed granted ive never had to shoot anyone here in the USA but ive come very close. 1. why I carry it loaded because its designed to be carried like this. I can get into the details of this but I dont wanna bore you. but i will say this, ITS COMPLETLY SAFE TO CARRY A 1911 WITH A ROUND IN THE CHAMBER! now a glock on the other hand.....anyways, 2.im not stupid I've been around guns my entire life and served time in the corps. however, I do trust guns because I trust myself and I have enough sense to learn my weapons system, train with it and have become comfertable with this and learn its weaknesses and its strengths. I also think the advantages are greater with it being loaded. like your reaction time will increase giving you the vital seconds you need that may save your life. also if someone inside your house for example hears you load a gun well guess what? you just gave your position away and now you just lost the element of surprise. besides, if you have a gun you should have it inspected by a qualifed gunsmith and maintain it. If it needs to be replaced than replace it. if you have kids consider a lock box there like $40. You cant put a price on your family. one more thing if you do all this you need to obey all gun safety laws at all times! do these and I dont think youll ever have to worry about an accidential discharge.

I never knock on anyone that does not choose to arm themselves or take other preventive measures. I personally am not paranoid or scared of any man (although snakes scare me), but being in the career field that i am in i have seen what can be done to people that disregard the safety of themselves or their families and fall victims to evil doers. Nowdays you need to always watch your 6 or some predator will take advantage of you. With the economy being a mess and the prices of every necessity and luxury going up, crime also increases. I think the best deterrent in your home is a K9, a residence alarm, then a firearm if necessary. I have a Glock 22 with a lasermax and surefire X200A thats is loaded and under my bed in a Bladetech holster that i welded to bed support beam.

I sleep with both my xds's and my 1911 cocked and locked. My 1911 has a leather hoster with retention in addition to a grip saftey and ambi safety on the frame. I don't worry one bit.
