Took my step-daughter (she's 17) to get her navel pierced. She went to go yesterday but her mom threw a fit, and well, she asked us to take her.....

Anyway, she was asking me to get mine done, but I said no......I have been thinking about getting it done....but now I'm not so sure....

Opinions?

not even a bold move anymore - it's like getting your ears pierced at this point. ONLY DO IT IF YOU HAVE A VERY SEXY FLAT STOMACH. At least IMO.

Women with belly button piercing's are a major turn on. However as Killah suggested, fat belly's need not apply.

I like 'em

My tummy's not as flat as a 17 yo girl's but it doesn't hang over my pants either.....

That's like me saying - my penis isn't as small as an ant's but isn't as big as an elephant's either! Anyway - I say go for it if you want to or if it will make you happy. Like I said, so many girls have it now that grandparents don't even look twice anymore, so the renegade factor is out the window. It is sexy, if you have the stomach to back it up.

Yeah, everybody has one....so I don't know.....

Anyway, my hubby wants me to get a tattoo on the small of my back -- I think he'd like that better.....

definitely flat enough for a piercing.

is that jen? thats flat!
i have had my belly button and clit pierced before and loved it. I'll probably get my bellybutton done again (had to take them both out a few years ago)

yes, definetly flat enough for a piercing.

i'm not big on belly button piercings, but that's just me. i've gone through a multitude of piercings myself....used to have 5 in my left ear, 2 of them in the cuff, and 1 in the cuff of my right ear. also had my eyebrow pierced for a short while before joining the Marine Corps. now all i have is my tounge pierced.

belly button can take a while to heal, i know that. it can also leave a perminet scarring if it's not done right.

the piercing choice is yours.

tattoo on the lower back can look very nice. if you go this route, make sure the design kicks ass. hell, i'll make the trip down your way for that one (and i'll cry because i can't afford any new inkwork myself). the guy that did my half sleeve still works up in West Chester. great artist and real friendly. he doesn't like doing flash off the wall, and can take an idea and turn it into something you'll never regret.

Yeah, I wouldn't know what tatt to get for my lower back......I want something interesting, not color, black & white........but definitely something interesting...

If I recall correctly she lives with jen and the father so that should be good enough.

Well, I don't know them personally, and I don't have kids, just seems to me like it's (A) disrespectful to the other parent and (B) opens the door for other problems.

Just my .02.

I see your point but as I see it the parent with custody should win out. Having to make 3-way decisions would be a nightmare. I doubt real mom is helping with her bills much.

uh, when did we get off talking about her stomach?! that stomach is sexier than 95% of girls my age (24). Great job, jens. Keep up the good work. I am now going to go and, um, take care of, um, something.

No, we didn't go around her mom.....she lives with her mom & comes over....whenever....

I just didn't want to get into the whole long story.... but here goes...

She is 17, and her mom agreed to take her to get her navel pierced...she took a 1/2 day off work yesterday to take Jess to get it done....Jess was late getting there and then she had to fill out a form & go across the street & get it notarized......Well, I guess her mom was PO'd that she was late and then had to go get it notarized so started screaming at Jess in the parking lot for being late, wasting her time, etc......so she didn't get to get it done yesterday....

Her mom was also leaving for the beach yesterday & is away all weekend, so we agreed to take her today....

Her mom knows full well she was getting it done -- doesn't like it, but had agreed in advance....

I dig the naval piercing. Remember tatoo's are permanent!

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I'm hesitant to get the tatt & may go for the piercing instead.....

Oh, and with Jess, I just think her mom didn't want Jess to get pierced and had things to do, which is why she freaked out.....

If you are thinking of getting a tattoo simply because your husband would like it I would advice you against getting one. Do it only if it's something you want on your body.

As far as the piercing, if you want one go for it. Belly button piercings such during the healing process. I use to have four belly button piercings. One in the top and three in the bottom. Then I stuck to just two. Later one. Now none. They can take up to a year to heal fully. You can not go swimming or sit in still water such as a bath for 8-12 weeks after getting it pierced. You also can't sleep on your stomach until it's healed. That really sucked for me as it's the only way I can sleep. You have to keep all clothing away from it to prevent infection and pain. Which means low rise pants, short tops, no belts, etc. It's not painful at all during the inital piercing. The most painful piercing I have ever had was my nipples and I've had a total of 18 piercings. After it heals it's a cute piercing. :)

Additionally, if you do decide to get it pierced the best way to assure that it heals straight and not bent to one side is by rotating it nightly and covering it. But only after it has started to lay to one side, which is usually after three days. You will want to wash it with antimicrobial/antibacterial mild soap. If you dilute Dial soap, the kind without any fragances, this works great. Prior to washing it you'll want to wet ear swabs with warm water and use it to remove any crusties before applying soap. Then you rotate it and rinse it. Best to do in the shower.

Well, I wasn't going to get the tatt just cuz my hubby liked it, it's just that I think that would be his preference if he had a choice.....

Oh, and the navel piercing I would get would be a barbell, so I think that would avoid the twisting, etc..... :worried:

we'll have to chat about this one.

black and grey work looks 10x better than color and doesn't fade nearly as much. my first tatt was full color. still looks good, but it has faded slightly. parts of my dragon have color highlights, and the flames around the wizard are colored in, but that's it. i was pushing for more color at the time, but the guy kept telling me no. i'm glad he kept trying to talk me out of it, as it looks good enough with just the highlights. i think if i would've gone back to him later and asked for full color i think he would've smacked me.

interesting thing with that guy....i was getting ink from him once and asked him why he had ribbons and trophies from women's tattoo judging contests. he told me what had done for female clients in the past was discounted their inkwork with the promise that if they placed in a contest, he would get to keep the trophy. he had quite a few of them as proof of the quality of his work.

he did inkwork on at least one girl that was featured in Tattoo magizine. one was on the cover and had a 3 page layout inside. she had some awesome black Celtic work and some very intricate designs on her. he was also in Tattoo magizine himself a few years later.

A good, professional, qualified piercer will not pierce you with a barbell. A barbell does not allow you to properly rotate it during the aftercare. You need to rotate it daily to clean it, get soap inside, and get the crusties off. A barbell doesn't allow that movement.

Hope your step daughter wasn't pierced with a barbell. She could be in for a good infection. :worried:

Personally, I'm fascinated by any body piercings a woman has. I will sit there and play with their piercings for hours while cuddling. Have no idea why I like them though.

Yep, she got a barbell.....but from my research -- I did some when I found out she wanted this done, wanted her to be safe -- you actually should not rotate the piercing -- it's not necessary...so I'm not worried....as long as she keeps it clean....

I'm interested to know where you read this.

I read that link and noticed their aftercare is very general. It doesn't specify different techniques for different body piercings. Piercings in different locations require different aftercare. Which wasn't shown there.

You don't care for a lip piercing in the same way you care for an ear piercing or a genital piercing. There are slight variations for each when it comes to aftercare. You also have to consider the source. They aren't piercers. They just sell jewlery. I did a search for navel aftercare. I found at least ten sites that all suggested pretty much the same. All suggested that you do rotate your navel piercing. All suggested that you get pierced either with a banana barbell (which I am now realizing it's probably what you meant when you said barbell) or a semi circular bead ring. They did differ on how many times a day it should be cleaned and how to remove any and all scabs. These were all professional piercing studios around the world. It is recommended that you do rotate your piercing to get soap on the inside which allows the wound (which is what your piercing is) to heal from the inside out. Not rotating it puts you at a higher risk for infection. If you get your navel infected you can suffer pretty badly. The piercer should of told all the consequences of neglect during aftercare. He or she also should of given you a sheet with appropiate aftercare to follow. That is required by law in many states. BTW, if navel piercings get infected you should never remove the jewlery. This traps the infection inside and can cause further damage.

I've had an infected belly button from not rotating it. Turning it was painful so I neglected it. Trust me an infected belly button is no fun!

Here are some of the links I mentioned I found above.

Good info, thanks for posting it........ However, on that site they do have a tips section for specific site piercings......

The barbell she got was a ball on each end thing.....and she will be doing salt water soaks each day.......

Kinda thought about it, I'm glad I didn't get it done today, cuz I'm getting in the hot tub right now!!

when i had my navel pierced, it didn't hurt (the clit piercing i had hurt like HELLLLLLLL)- but i couldn't wear regular jeans or a weightlifting belt or lay on my stomach. it hurt for a few weeks and one day i look at it and it looked... shallower than i had remembered. not as much skin was holding it in. The next day i look and saw it was DEFINATELY shallow.. too shallow.
a few days later, i'm in the gym and here "ping".
there on the floor was my navel ring. it had worked its way out and i was left with a teeny little nick at the edge of my bellybutton, which is all heeled now.

Yikes!

Did that hurt?

Your piercing migrated which apperantly happens often with navel piercings. I have a little mark on my belly button from one of the four piercings I had there. I took it out to show a mentally challenged guy that I had a piercing. He kept asking how I had two little shiny things on my stomach. When I took it out I started talking to someone else at that party and forgot to put my piercing back in. Hours later when I attempted to stick it back in, it went through the bottom hole just fine but the top hole was really hard so I pushed it. What I ended up doing was literally re-piercing the top hole. That's what my little mark is. It's almost like a hard little bump. I'm almost thinking of getting it re-pierced to hide that mark.

EEEEEK!!!
it didn't hurt at all when it popped out- i didn't even know since it was always sore anyway.
i had to have my clit pierced TWICE though... the first time he did it crooked.
It was at a tattoo place. i wore a short skirt and no panties and went into the back room with this gross little man, hiked up my skirt and sat on a folding chair and shut my eyes.
I don't really know what he did, but it felt like he put a clamp on me or something and just JAMMED a spear through it. I actually couldn't breathe for a second. he's talking to me about aftercare and i'm trying to stop the room from spinning.
later i look and its crooked. REALLY crooked.
I went back a month or so later and told him- again, had to sit there in some gross back room, porn all over the walls and me with my eyes shut, skirt up and legs spread for this little wierd guy. He redid it and not only did it hurt just as bad, but this time it BLED. OMG that hurt.
anyway, a few months later i was having surgery and they said i had to take it out or risk being burned if they have to shock my heart or something. I took it out and when i was well enough to try to get it back in... i was on the floor trying to find the damn intry hole (lol) and it was gone. or closed. all i know is.. there was no way i could get it back in.

You didn't actually get your clit pierced did you?

I have my clitoral hood pierced. It wasn't painful at all. Like I said, the most painful piercing ever was getting my nipples pierced. That brought tears to my eyes all three times.

oh, Jen, a tattoo as compared to a belly button piercing in terms of recovery....you won't be in the hot tub for a few weeks, depending on how long it takes you to heal. once all the scabs have been gone for about 2 days, you're 100% again (got to give it a little time, just in case).

i'd say 2 weeks is average for healing time. some people heal very fast, others heal slowly, and it all depends on how much scarring there was during the process. i had one tattoo completely heal in 6 days, another one that went a month and still wasn't completely healed. the one that took a month was a tribal band on my arm. very heavy black work, i was drunk when i got it, and doing heavy black work is a long drawn out process of repeatedly going over the same area, thus the excessive scabbing i experienced and subsequent scarring.

anyone doing heavy black work should give you a free touch up, IMO. that way they don't do to someone what happened to me in order to get it all done right the first time.

simple lines and shading, however, are a cake walk for the tattoo artist and the reciever of pain

i bet!! didn't it show through your clothing?
yes, clitoral hood... not the actual clit.
this guy... after he put a clamp on my lips was busy doing something (my eyes were shut).. for all i know he was jerking off while i sat there looking like an S&M star. he didn't do anything to lessen the pain and i don't think he used a gun like they do for an ear piercing.. it felt like a spear.

Did what show through my clothing? My clit piercing? No. Not that I am ever aware of. The jewelry is nicely tucked inside and protected by my outer lips. If you mean my nipples, yes they do if I go braless. Sometimes I will go braless and put band-aids over them to make them less noticeable. When I first got them done three years ago, I went to Dairy Queen one night where I saw my mom's best friend and her husband, brales. I talked to them for awhile and then went on about my day. Later that night my mom called me and asked me what I had on my breasts. I asked why she asked such a weird question. Especially since she was on the telephone in a city two hours away. Her best friend told her she saw me at Dairy Queen and I had somethig weird on my boobs which she could see through my shirt. I never did tell my mom. I just laughed and changed the subject.

Professional piercing studios do not use piercing guns. They use a standard 14g sterile needle which a cork on one end to pierce your skin. The piercer then leaves the needle in while attaching the jewlery on the needle through a little slot. They pull the needle through and that brings the jewlery through. They remove the needle and fasten the jewlery appropiately.

They do use clamps to pull your hood, they mark it first with a special pen. The clamps are used to make sure the needle goes through the marked area. If he took a while he was probably preparing the needle, sticking it in some jelly stuff (I think it's vaseline) and making sure everything was set. Unless he was a real dirty old man! Then who knows. Piercers never numb the area that is going to be pierced. I think the short-term pain from piercings is addicting. That's how I ended up with so many piercings. I loved the pain, being scared before the piercing and the thrill of it all. But that quickly that old.

i thought the fad of pretty girls mutilating themselves with belly button piercings had passed. the ugliest trend in recent years. almost as bad as women piercing their noses and/or eyebrows.

hell no, no gun is used. they use a needle that's thicker than the jewlery they will be inserting. when i had my eyebrow done, the girl didn't want to show me the needle until after it was over with. she said a lot of people would get freaked out and change their minds if they saw it before hand.

i wouldn't of changed my mind if i saw it beforehand, but i just went along with what she wanted to do.

for my tounge, i saw the needle beforehand. didn't deter me from getting it done.

and yeah, they use clamps to hold the area they are going to pierce.

if you want it, do it. you can always take it out, unlike a tattoo which is waaay too permanent for me.

I've gained a tad, ~ 5 lbs from that pic..... since I'm not sure, I don't think I should do it....

Get it! You got the body to rock the look...
Thanks DT for the pic......

I say no to the belly button, funny the subject of clit piercings cam eup I was gonna suggest that
peace

I had mine done but I found out I was allergic to the metal in the rings they use. My body pushed the peircing out. I have a little scare now that I hate. Jen your tummy is perfect for it. I say go for it.

Me neither. Ten yearsa go thjey made you stand out........now they just make you look like cheap trash.

thats kinda how i feel about tattoos on women.
for me at least- i don't want to make any of the girlz here feel bad.

I've had my navel pierced 3 times. First time I had to take it out because I had two more children. Then had it redone after kids and that was rejected shortly thereafter as the guy didn't go deep enough. Had it done a third time - took FOREVER to heal but now I had to take the barbell out as the hole stretch to the point where the barbell would actually slip through. I need to get a small ring to put in it's place.

I had my hood pierced about 2 years or so ago and it healed up VERY quickly (unlike my navel and later my nose). If you go to a very reputable a tattoo/piercing place you will not experience the nightmare that BAvatar did. I researched first and found a GREAT PLACE. Only female piercers where available to pierce females with genital and nipple pierces and male piercers for males. I had to go back twice as the first time the woman had gone home and they only had a male onstaff. When I had called and asked about getting the pierce I was not specific about the type of pierce so it was my bad.

To Bavatar - Darlin' why on earth would you let some skanky dude touch you AT ALL let alone allow him to pierce you, then return when he didn't do it properly?

Of all the pierces I have had I would have to say that my nose pierce is the one that was most painfull. It wasn't the pierce itself though, but when they put the jewelry in it THROBBED LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER!!!

I have one small very private tatt, a nose pierce (small stud), navel pierce and hood pierce - LOVE THEM ALL!!!

If you have a nice flat tummy, I say go for it!... or perhaps would you consider a nose pierce. They look so nice on the right woman.

for me at least- i don't want to make any of the girlz here feel bad.

Dont even get me started in tatts on women.............major turn off

nose studs are still cool because I don't see them that often. I had a friend back in my clubbing days (hi Tracy) that used to glue one on and you couldn't tell it wasn't a real pierce. One of my lesbian friends (hi Vanessa) that had the hots for her swore up and down it was real, even after I told her I watched her pull it off.

lol.. i'm kinda with you on that. tats and visible piercings look good on young women, but young women don't stay that way. I rarely see a woman in her late 30s/early 40s with a tat that still looks good- not that the tat itself doesn't look good.. but it kinda says "i've been around the block a few times" or "i've done some shit in the past".
I don't know... to each her own. I grew up with a mom that is cool and fun but all class- i want to be like her when i'm her age. People look at her and say "omg, your mom is so hot." or "she's so classy"... i don't know if she'd still have that look if she had a tattoo across her lower back, and probably not if she has a butterfly or some other meaningless symbol on her ankle.
thats just me though- most of my girlfriends have tats and thats cool for them.

anything would add something to you.

i don't mind tats on men- its a double standard but you know... i don't like men in high heels either. lol.
Plus... there is NO image i'd want permanently on me that isn't already there.

I think tattoos can be distasteful on both men and women. It just depends on what you get and where you get it.

I find tattoos on womens' legs, ankles, arms, shoulders, neck and lower backs to be distasteful. If it's somewhere hidden then it can still be cute. Depending on what you have. It seems like in today's world every girl gets a lower back tattoo and they all have the same thing- butterflies. It's outplayed! Doesn't everyone want to not look like the next person they see walking down the street?

Facial tattoos, excessive tattos in one area, neck tattoos, facial piercings, and some extreme body mods are distasteful to me in both genders.

I have a tattoo on my boob. Some say it's trashy. Most people that know me don't even know I have it unless they have seen me in a bathing suit, topless, or in a tiny little top that barely covers my breasts. To me, everything from it's placement to the actual design is unique to me. To others it's just a dumb ladybug. It has a significant number of dots which signifies something special to me. To me, that's the way a tattoo should be. It shouldn't be something you took ten minutes to decide on after walking into a tattoo parlor. It should be thought out, unique, and special to you. Not something you will see on the next ten people who walk into the same parlor you are in.

Being classy is more than just the way you choose to decorate your body whether it be from your clothing style of choice, your makeup application, or what holes or ink you have on your body. It's about the way you carry yourself and present yourself to others. Your attitude.

Wow !!!!!!!!!!!! sounds like we are living with something we may think is not so cool after all, but we'll go to the grave before we admit it. :chomp:

I lived in Paris for near 7 months and was shocked at the number of women who were waaay above 40 who had their noses pierced. And here I thought when I moved there that I would be unique! LOL

ALL looked very very classy as most mature European women do. Just fashion, really no different than earrings. Parisian women are VERY VERY conservative in their dress so I would not be able to tell you about navel or any other body pierces as I did not have opportunity in that time to visit beaches, etc. Their dress in the gym is also far more conservative than in the US.

I have a nose pierce which was never even mentioned that I should consider removing for social situations. My man is a very prominent public figure so I would think if there was the least concern for social propriety I would have realized on my own to consider taking it out for certain social situations or he would have mentioned it to me. The situation has never arisen.

BAvatar - no offense to you but from the situations that you described (hiking up your skirt for some slimy guy in the back of a place where you had concerns about hygeine and qualifications, then going back AGAIN) would make you seem the type that has "done some shit in the past" and unless I am wrong (which I apologize if I am) you dont really seem old enough to have a past. Though I do admit that the generation behind seems to have grown up waaaaaaaaay faster than I did.

What I am trying to say is that everyone makes mistakes and we all do things that in retrospect we realize we should perhaps have done differently. Living in an ivory tower can become quite difficult AND lonely.

If the worst thing my daughter does is get a tatt that she realizes later on was perhaps a bad idea then I guess I will be able to die a happy mother.

Just my .02

Took my step-daughter (she's 17) to get her navel pierced. She went to go yesterday but her mom threw a fit, and well, she asked us to take her.....

Anyway, she was asking me to get mine done, but I said no......I have been thinking about getting it done....but now I'm not so sure....

Opinions?
You should one up her and get your labia done.

LMAO!!!

funny how so many people get tattoos and piercings to "express themselves" yet end up looking exactly like a zillion other people. you want to express yourself go out and learn to play the guitar.

That would require, time, effort and committment. Getting your penis split and pierced is much easier.

After looking at your pic, you should definitely get it done. Not only is it a turn on, but it will also direct attention to you in a way that people will notice the hard work you put in to staying fit and sexy.

lol... i think you and i are around the same age . and yeah, i have a past (don't we all. :) )- but since very few people ever saw the piercing, it was a private thing. I had friends who had gotten inked at the same location and liked the guy- i just didn't know what the back room was gonna be like. tattoos are usually more noticeable so to me, it seems to 'say' more.
don't get me wrong- most of my friends have tattoos and thats cool- its just not for me.

I had mine done years ago and it still looks great! I think it looks very sexy...on the right body that is.

Just do it!

Really???? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Will it make you more sensitive or easier to "finish" if you are less sensitive now?

I heard it will make you more sensitive and definitely help you finish if you have trouble. Plus it gives your man something extra to play with with his teeth and tongue :p

He doesn't do that..... Hmmmmm, now if I can get over the ick factor of it....

well... its like a litte doorknocker saying "helloooooooo" to you down there all day.
so it just kinda makes you aware of it all.
you know, in case you forget about your female bits. :-)
but.. your man doesn't go down there?
i'm sorry hon.

What? that he doesn't "go down there"??

well yeah.

that's weird.

I dont know if its a cultural thing but that's almost the most important to me.

when I was a virgin I'd even like jack off just thinking about giving head

I did that all the time months before I even fucked my gf

I like being so close and having such control over her and shit

It wouldn't be cool if she didn't repay of course.

because you are a nice kid, i will do you this favor and remind everyone that 'giving head' doesn't just mean 'to a guy' in other countries as most people think in the U.S.

I don't think that's true. The enjoyment derived from giving joy (BIG O) to others is very strong. Very satisfying. As a guy you know you're going to get yours, which makes giving someone that satisfaction all the more fulfilling!!!

i can understand the whole "icky" dude doing the piercing.....

met this girl that a buddy was dating. my buddy was looking at my fresh ink, and she asked where i got it done. turned out to be the same place she got the hood of her clit pierced.

i thought long and hard before my next question....

"did the, uhh, fat guy do it?"

the piercer was probably 400lbs, roll upon roll upon roll. he had a really good reputation as far as piercers go, thus the only reason she went to him.

she said that he asked to take a picture of it afterwards to put in his photo book because he had only ever done 2 clit hoods before hers.

she said no. she told us it was something about "a big fat ugly nasty sweaty dude with a picture of my pussy just turns me off...let alone the fact that he probably jerked off immediately after i left the shop."

Just a thought....

If your daugher becomes pregnant (heaven forbid) then you as the parent still has SOME control/influence over the situation. Whereas if your son gets some crazy psycho broad knocked up you have none and that baby is STILL your grandchild.
