Problem with non-Italians who didn't grow up in certain areas is this - a LOT of what you see in those movies (especially Sopranos) is based on some hardcore everyday realities. You would NEVER understand that unless you grew up around that element.

I have seen the movies...goodfellas was one of my favs but I don't picture there is a whole lot of that going on as it use to before some of the big leaders like Gotti where either arrested or killed. I guess the best way for me to think of it is like an gang....I would never be so dumb as to think if your Italian then you go around dress in expensive suits, packing a gun, shirt unbuttoned to show all the gold chains, killing any one that disrespected you or your family, dealt drugs, etc.

It is so stupid to think that if you come from a certain heritage, then your just like they show in the movies. Takes a small mind to think that way.

KB, you just don't look like you exactly had a "hard" existence. You grew up in RI going to tennis matches and wearing khakis? Most hard core thugs aren't at the country club getting in a few tennis matches, last I checked.

EXACTLY my point. I think some young Italian boys see those movies sometimes and try to act hard. It ends up a slap in the face of their culture to live the stereotype that Hollywood has created.

For the record, RI is the most Italian dense state in the country. More than CT. More than NY. Yes, NY.

You don't have to be "hard" to grow up around those types of Italians. No matter what your background is, being 1st generation means being raised by off-the-boat parents, uncles, aunts, grandparents, cousins, friends...like KB and I. The fags you see in clubs aren't what we represent. Every relative I know came here not to start a goddamn crime family, but to work hard and stick to the morals they were taught and grew up appreciating in their country. The true Italians you see are hard working, loyal, loving, stubborn. Granted, there are times the Italians on this board will make Godfather, Goodfellas, and Bronx Tale references because SOME elements of that culture are parts of our everyday lives. I know plenty of muvgas who look like characters right out of Sopranos.

I've moved to 100% organic hair products, all of em. Redken is alright, nothing wonderful. But my shit is long now, so I gots to maintain, nigga!
