SHGB: products, compounds, and thoeries?

Found this little write up on SHBG. It appears that high androgens lower it, and Estrogen and T4 raise it! That's a new one on me. I think it's really the right balance that they are discussing. submitted for your review:

Sex hormone binding globulin
Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) is a glycoprotein that binds to sex hormones, specifically testosterone and estradiol. Other steroid hormones such as progesterone, cortisol, and other corticosteroids are bound by transcortin. Transport of sex hormonesThese sex hormones circulate in the bloodstream, bound mostly to SHBG and to some degree bound to serum albumin. Only a small fraction is unbound, or "free," and thus biologically active and able to enter a cell and activate its receptor. The SHBG inhibits the function of these hormones. Thus bioavailability of sex hormones is influenced by the level of SHBG. SHBG productionSHBG is produced by the liver cells and is released into the bloodstream. Other sites that produce SHBG are the brain, uterus, and placenta and vagina. In addition SHBG is produced by the testes; testes-produced SHBG is also called androgen-binding protein. The gene for SHBG is located on chromosome 17. ControlSHBG levels appear to be controlled by a delicate balance of enhancing and inhibiting factors. Its level is decreased by high levels of insulin and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I). Also, high androgen levels decrease SHBG, while high estrogen and thyroxine levels increase it. Conditions with high or low levelsConditions with low SHBG include polycystic ovary syndrome, diabetes, and hypothyroidism. Conditions with high SHBG include pregnancy, hyperthyroidism, and anorexia nervosa. There has recently been research to link high SHBG levels with breast and testicular cancer as well. Measurement of sex hormonesWhen determining levels of circulating estradiol or testosterone, either a total measurement could be done that includes the "free" and the bound fractions, or only the "free" hormone could be measured. A free androgen index expresses the ratio of testosterone to the sex hormone binding globulin and can be used to summarise the activity of free testosterone. Long Jack for sure

Winny too
Insulin is a major SHBG inhibitor if you are into that sort of thing
Ive found 4-hydroxyisolecine works pretty well too

Before everyone gets too excited, let's set the record straight on a couple of things.

#1: First of all, there's no such thing as a patented herbal formula. The only thing that can be patented is the name.

#2: Divanyl and 3, 4 Divanytetehhydrofurum is just nettles. It's in UNLEASHED but at only 100 mgs. Why? Because although some lowers SHBG, too much lowers DHT and that's not good.

#3:If you want Nettles you can get the standardized extract through Vitamin Shoppe for about 5 bucks a bottle.

#4: The ingredients in UNLEASHED have been surveyed through blood tests, including my own. There's an average of 25% reduced SHBG -- less in some, more in others.

#5: Longjack has some impressive literature, but it does nothing for me and did nothing to change free T levels in any of the subjects I tested it on. If it did, it'd be in UNLEASHED. Same with Tribulus. It's cheap enough, but it doesn't do much so I opted to put more effectiive ingredients than less.

There is only about 5% Divanyl / Divanytetehhydrofurum in nettles. Stinging nettle root is not the same thing as Divanyl.

You know that each herb in nature has several extracts, and nettle root is not an exception. It has 4 or 5 extracts that show minimal, marginal, and high affinities for binding to shbg. It just so happens that 3,4-divanillyltetrahydrofuran is the extract with the very highest affinity.

That means if you buy a generic nettle root extract product, you might get several different extracts, many of them not having nearly the effect of divanil. In fact, you could end up with very little 3,4-divanillyltetrahydrofuran at all, depending on how abundant it is.

To answer the origianl question, I have used PP's Sustain Alpha, Dermacrine, Toco-8 & Endo Amp.

I've also used Nelsons Post Cycle and Unleashed.

I can honestly say that Unleashed worked amazingly well for me. Morning wood every morning, awesome libido. I used it PCT along with the PP stuff and had blood work done about 6 weeks after. Levels were all in check and above average in some areas (only good no bad levels).

I ALWAYS use Unleashed as part of my PCT. It just flat out works for me.

Hell ya they are great products, and they do what they say they will. I also used unleashed and post cycle. Love them both.
