Setting up a weight room, need help!

I am setting up a weight room in the room above my garage. I am wondering how much weight it can support. I just bought a unit that has a bench, smith machine/squat rack, lat pulldown and leg extension attachment. I currently have 500 pounds in free weights. I am wondering if I set the unit on like two 1 inch pieces of plywood, (to help spread the load), if that would be sufficient. Any and all ideas welcome. Thanks to all replies!!

well how thick is the concrete on ur gound floor to ur garage ceiling level? if it's below 200mm don't even consider..

i myself do construction works.. so i'd highly recomend that u set up ur gear on solid concrete floor that has no spaces beneath.. if ur gonna lift heavy.. and u might train to failure and drop ur weights.. it might be dangerous..

and what is ur floor finish? tiles? cement render? carpet?

I workout on the second floor of my house and its wood construction. It limits to how heavy you can go becasue you cannot drop the weights. I have a laminant floor like PERGO. It will scar if i drop the weights. If your squatting 500lbs Dont drop it on the floor. THe house will most likely hold the 500 no prob, So long as its no falling on it or all in one spot,ie. all the weights piled on top of each other. Plywood may be a good idea but it dont really think its necessary.

Here is all I would reccomend for a home gym:

2-3 inch thick 'rubber' flooring - worth it's weight in gold!

Bench with supports (nice if it inclines)

Dip/Chin bars

Power cage

Oly Bar and 700lbs of free weights (you can pick the amount, but that's what I'd want!)

OPTIONAL:

oly adjustable dumbells
bike to warm up on
mirror/s
fan/heating
tough woodblocks (for adjusting height)
strong buddy who can spot!

what's beneath the carpet? wood or concrete? and yes rubber flooring is the best.. cuz it will eat all the force up, at least most of it.. hehe..

like what muscelove said.. dun drop ur weights and what musketeer said.. have a strong buddy who can spot for u.. working out alone is dangerous if u r lifting heavy..
