Can someone please explain to me why saying "that's gay" genuinely offends some people.

Or are they just being overly sensitive pussies finding a reason to be a bitch?


Likewise if someone says "that's retarded", who actually gets offended by that?

I have 6 downs syndrome cousins and when someone calls someone a retard or refers to someone as retarded, I couldn't care any less. Even their sisters, my other cousins, say "that's retarded" and they do not aim offense at anyone.


The most annoying part is that people actually know that when people use the terms in that context, they do not intend or imply and offense, yet they act like little crybabies and make a big deal out of nothing.

No, I wouldn't care at all. Originally, the term Mormon was likened to calling a jew a kike. It was used by haters to refer to Mormons negatively.

We just adopted it as a "slang" term because it became so common. Instead of getting pissed, I just don't even care.




Saying something is "gay" doesn't mean you are calling every gay person a faggot piece of shit, but that's how some people react.



The point is that people get so overly offended at something that has no intention of being offensive and it's retarded.

It's socially acceptable for black people to call each other niggers.

Why?

Because it's not meant to be offensive. In fact, referring to someone as "my nigger" is an expression of love or brotherhood.

By default, a white person can't call a black person that. It's automatically offensive no matter the context.

The biggest question I'm really asking is why people get so upset over something so minor when they know that people don't mean to be offensive anyways.

This is a real world example. I jokingly called one of my friends gay. "You're so gay bro." Intending to mean that he was being an idiot.

Some lady heard me say it and got all upset and said I was disrespectful to gay people for saying that.

I asked her why that was disrespectful and she said because the word gay is offensive how I used it.

I said, I called him that and he's not even gay. I wasn't even talking about gay people nor was I implying anything against them.

She just said, well you just need to stop saying that.

I told her that I had no intention of being offensive and apologized, and also said that I can say whatever the hell I want and if you don't like it then that's your problem.


So, why would she be mad that I said that in the first place?

But the original question is about me calling a straight guy gay, and someone getting mad.

This would be exactly as if I called a white friend black.... Not calling a black person a nigga etc. Or even a white person that.

If you heard anyone call a white person black, you wouldn't really care. Especially if they were just joking around.

That happened years ago, but I'm still fuming about it so I wanted to get it off my chest.


Jk, I tried to be polite. I didn't really tell her off, just told her that I'd say whatever I want and that I want trying to be rude.


The level of offense taken was way disproportionate to what was said, even worse so because it wasn't any of her business and I was even saying anything bad about anyone.

People can't help what offends them. What you can do is not say something in front of someone once it offends them, why would you continue to offend someone if you knew it bothered them? I don't use that phrase around someone that might be offended, in fact I would only use it around certain people I know wouldn't be offended which is like, three people. It's not a good phrase to use on a regular basis in mixed company. It's just not polite.

Does it really matter if it offends or why or what you think about it? If it does, just apologize and don't use it again in front of them.

That is because not only does it use a word which decent people do not use, but it also insinuates that the person saying it thinks Black people can't fix something correctly, or some sort of nasty insult aside from the careless use of a hurtful word.

With that said, I'd rather just say that something looks goofy or poorly-thought out, or in the case of a failing repair, I might say "botched". That way, there's no need to think about who one might be insulting with or without meaning to.
