Second week of deads....

beastboy

and I can't wait to get in the gym and do it. Just wanted to say thanks to all that helped me, and got me addicted to this so damn quick. I just wish I started them a year ago...and think of where I could be....

excellent...another deadlifter is born.

:) Yup, once a dude says what beastboy did, it translates to "okay, I'm done doing mediocre lifts and I'm going to start growing like a motherfucker now."

Deads, they are like a drug I can't get enought of..... The results are amazing, just keep at them....

How quickly can I expect to increase the weight.....and should I just stick to them once a week?

Be patient bro. I wouldn't go more than 10lbs per week. Deads are highly compound, highly beneficial, and probably the most risk-prone excercise you can do. If you get carried away and do too much too soon, your back will bring you back to reality right quick, even with perfect form. And yes, once a week is fine.

I hated them at first but love them now. Consider me one of the converted.

I've been going for reps (225 in the 8-10 range), trying to increase body conditioning. I may switch to low reps and go for sheer weight for a while now (rep range 4-6).

to say i have been getting fantastic results from deadlifting heavy would be an understatement. deadlifts are hands down my favorite lift

My body liked deads a lot, and I had dramatic strength increases pretty fast. I finally hit the wall at 495 a couple months ago. Going to try 545 on Sunday. I would like to do them every back day, but every other week seems best for me.

Oh sure....rub it in my face with your bragging....j/k.....good luck and let us know how it goes...

I just started

I have been doing stiff legs with low weights. I really fell it in my lower back. Don't feel it in the Hams or Traps. I have always worked them seperatly in the past.

Is the bent leg version better on the lower back. I am gonna have to stick with the low weights until my lower back gets up to par. I feel like a girly man in the gym doing deads with 2 50lb dumbells.

Regular deads and stiff leg are VERY different.

Dude tell me how? Never see guy's in the gym doing deadlifts. One or two guys every once and awhile. I never did them because I wasn't sure of the form. I would hate to throw out my back

Fro, why haven't you been posting in the chat area?? or at least I haven;t seen as much....just curious.

i'd say that stiff legged probably hits your lower back a little bit more as you're pivoting at your waist during the movement. at the bottom of a regular dead you're pretty much squatted down, thus hitting your quads as opposed to your hams.

why don't you toss the DBs and just load up the olympic bar to 100lbs? you're going to outgrow the DBs anyways(assuming your DBs don't go up to 150-200lb range), and you might as well get the form down with the BB.

Thanks for the advice

I think I'll make the switch. I realize that the most important thing with this exersice is form.

Where is most of the force when doing bent legs. In the quads. Stiffs is obvious to me the accent is on the lower back.

Although regular deads due involve quads more than stiff legged ones, due to the huge difference in the amount of weight you can lift, regular deads will definitely build far more mass all through your back. Just remember to keep your head up, hips down, and keep the bar close to your body throughout the lift.

Saw your pictures

Saw your Deadlift pictures. Dude your a monster. I can barley hold 315 without straps when I do shrugs

Good job and thanks for the info

i dont see how its possible doing conventional deads without scraping the heyyyyyllllllllllllll out of your shins i do only sumo

triggerfinger: I guarantee that the reason you are having problems with your back is because of your form. You must be doing them all wrong. Must arch your back and ONLY go so deep as you have to. Don't go toooo deep...useless.

Remember...the stiff legged deadlift...you NEVER bend over...your hips move backwards. The entire movement is with your butt...try to touch your butt to the wall behind you!!!! It is just a hamstring stretch.

nclifter6feet6: Please tell me you are kidding? I love my scars. A true deadlifter isn't worried about the scrapes on his shins. My event training partner has his deadlifting jogging pants (for winter training) that have holes in the shins from doing deads...you just learn to love it. You also should not have the bar that close to your body...if it scrapes...it is probably too close anyway.
