First lets look into what the chest is made up of

1 The pectoralis major is a thick, fan-shaped muscle, situated at the upper front (anterior) of the chest wall. It makes up the bulk of the chest muscles.

The pectoralis major has three actions. It flexes the humerus, as in throwing a ball side-arm, and in lifting a child. It also adducts the humerus, as when flapping arms. It also rotates the humerus medially, as occurs when arm-wrestling.


THese are the major functions of the larges part of the chest.

So why is it that so many people believe that to build a huge set of pec it takes lots of flat benching movement?


NO... bech,squates,dl,mp work whole muscle groups and the body as a whole and are best for building over all mass across the body.


But if you have a specific goal to get a blasting chest then you need to work out in a different way.


2 chest work outs a day.

flat bench
12 reps
10 reps
8 reps
6 reps
3x3 max sets

incline dumb bell
12 reps
10 reps
8 reps
6 reps
3x3 max sets

super set both
pack deck dips
body weight many as you can do
standing cable flies reps of 15-20
5 sets of these super sets

end it off with 3-4 sets of push ups as many as you can do.



Tusday and Thursday work outs.



Of course no one fits into a single mold but this is Idea and I have don it a few times in the past. :biggrin:
 
thats a lot of sets 2x per weak.
 
I like finishing a workout with push ups, not that I always get this done. lol

They add a dimension to your look you can't get with weights and allow you to pump the maximum out of your session w/o overdoing it.

I do these instead of cable flies which don't do much of anything for me.

Started push ups in the army and never stopped
 
Sounds like a good plan. especially if your somone with a chest that is lagging behind. My chest is bigger than the rest of me so i have to work on arms and lats and everything else more. I still love blasting my chest though.
 
I typically do one muscle group per week, but I find that my chest recovers a little faster than the rest of my body, including my back. On my single chest day, I was doing flat bench, incline bench, incline or decline flys, then decline bench, then low cable crossovers, then high cable crossovers. Based on your recommendation, i am going to switch it up to

Day 1: Flat Bench, Increase Dumbell, Superset dips w/ high cable crossovers, then low cable crossovers
Day 2: Seated Hammer Strength Press, Seated Hammer Strength Inclined Press, regular decline bench, flys

What do you think all-knowing Need2?
 
Hey need2. Do you think it would be fine to replace dips for incline dumbell press if i am on the 5x5 workout (for friday's workout)?

What he posted is a typical Muscle and fitness type workout, why would you ask him any questions about the 5 x 5?

It is the complete opposite in theory and in practice of what he just posted.

If the focus is on getting a bigger look to your chest then its a go bro. I like it.

Good point. 5x5 is a great program for building overall mass. I have don it many times. Of course I tend to sick to this kind of a work out more then anything else as I am more into overall size and strength as i can tell from most of your post so are you.

Although just because he asked his question in this thread about a more muscle and fitness (sculpting) stile, focusing on a muscle group. Does not mean is question is way out of place. Even if it was i am sure we can still speak to him and help him with what ever ideas he may have,goals he may want to reach.


He asked me a question about 5x5 prob because he say in one of my other post in this thread I spoke about 5x5. so i am sure he saw that post and though hey maybe he can help me out here.

If you were mor of a positive person and your mind,actions,heart was in it to take the time to think things threw and do the best you can to help people I think you would have caught unto that rather quickly.

I've noticed your actions and posting stile and the person who have been over the years on elite though. Your the hyped up need to be right,just posting to make a point and be right about things guy. Love your ways of lifting it works good for you and are ready to pt down any other way and go well out of your way to be a pretty big jerk to any and everyone for no other reason then "ya I tell it like it is I'm a big bad ass" reasons or what ever it is you like to use as an excuse for your sheer prickism.

fuck ya weighted dips are a great movement used in the 5x5 stile of lifting. even the big ego boy up here ^^^^^ knew that but was so excited about making a jerk comment he could not lower him self to give that good little peace of information.

djeclipse no one likes a jerk. Only other jerks like jerks. If you like to be a jerk stop coming to a site that is not full of other jerks. There is plenty of site out there who would love to have another jerk around.

On elite we are trying to get rid of them. Not make more of them. Thanks have a nice day.

Lol. Thanks. So you think that replacing dips with dumbell incline press would be a bad idea?
 
Maybe it's just me, but I don't get much out of pushups....I can do 60-80 pushups in a row. No pump, just fatigued arms
 
dj - I think your post was not necessary. If you have a complaint about a mod on here, talk to an Ombudsmen or bring it up with another mod.

Your reply was not exactly helpful - it was a smartass reply to someone trying to get help to show that you know more than him.

That guy has been a jerk to more then 100 members if not thousands. His name has come up hundreds of times in discussion about what we are going to do about the problem with him. We have gotten complaint after complaint after complaint about him. I have sent him pm after pm after pm asking him to please tone it down.. Stop being so Abrasive and condescending to the membership. So after hundreds of warnings. YA I called him out on it publicly. After hundreds of complaints and warning ya he will be taking some time off. Maybe even all the time off in the world.
 
I have chest training tommorow. As i am away from 5x5 for a while i am planning to do:

Incline Bench Press 4x6-8
Flat Bench Presses 3x8-10
Decline Bench Press 3x8-10
Flat Flies 2x8-10
Push ups - As many as i can


How do you think this program is? The previous week i did the same but instead of Incline Bench Press i did flat bench press and instead of flat presses i did incline presses.
 
Gave this one a shot Monday Needto....felt good. I'm taking a little time off my 5x5 because a low back flare up and some shoulder pain so I was looking for something. Chest is my lacking muscle group so I'll dig this for a while. Thanks for the info.
 
Update...hit a personal best on DB bench with this this week. Put up 100lb DBs for the final three sets. Felt good to hit the triple digit DBs finally!

Never really got the point. Peck deck dips work just as well and they don't give me a damn blood rush head Ache.
