So here's the scoop:

For the last year my training has been utter dogshit. I've lost muscle, strength, stamina, etc. and gained too much bodyfat. So it's time to stop making excuses and start kicking my own ass.

Goals:
Short term- Lose 20 lbs of fat, get cardio back up to acceptable levels, increase core strength, make the gym the #1 priority.

Long term- Gain as much muscle and strength as possible. Increase lifts to:
Squat-700+
Dead- 700+
Bench- 450+
Push press- 400+

Get strongman training back on line and earn pro-card.

So here's the starting point:

Height 6'2"
Weight 314

Measurements (all are cold flexed unless otherwise stated)

Chest relaxed- 53"
Chest expanded- 56"
Left arm- held straight 18.5" flexed 20"
Right arm- held straight 18.25" flexed 20"
Waste (around belly button) 52"
Right leg (not flexed)- 33"
Left leg (not flexed)- 33"
Right calf- 19"
Left calf- 19"
Neck- 19"

Workout 8/14/07
Deads+back
Deads 315 x5 x2
Seated rows 400 x8 x3
Lat pulldowns 150 x8 x3
Seated ab crunch 170lbs resistance 8 x3
15min cardio at 70% HR max
This will be my first full week training in 8 weeks.

All workouts will be posted in this format. I won't post warm-up work unless specifically asked. Numbers will go weight reps sets.

I will do measurements once a month.

Thanks man. I'm hoping to get my arms back up to 22" or so cold when I was hammer curling the 100's for 6.

I actually don't care about that one at all, just listed it as a ref. I'd have a huge waste even if I were at 10% BF due to years of heavy lifting.

Looks like you're already strong as hell. What kind of core and flexibility work do you do to stay healthy?

IMHO, if your chest is bigger than your waist, you're skinny enough.

I do some stretching but have great natural flexibility (can almost do the full splits). Core work is more dynamic with heavy ab work, deadlifts, carries, etc. Need to do more core stability and rotational balance work. Once I pic up the strongman training again the core will get blasted with carries, drags, and picking up wacky objects.

I had veins in my stomach with a 44" waste so I'm not too worried about the size gain. Plus I'm not trying to look pretty.

Have you ever competed in scottish games? a friend of mine in michigan use to do alot of those events

I haven't ever been able to and we have a huge highland games here in Colorado. I did do a stone carry and tug of war at the games in Airth Scotland a few weeks ago.

Couldn't make it to the gym on friday due to prior obligations. On sat I took a 2.3 mile walk in about 40min and felt pretty good. I can already feel my cardio coming back some.

Still taking it really easy and getting back into things. Squats felt great will up the weight again this week. Squats are probably the lift I neglected the most so they will take the longest to get back on track.

Dude im impressed with some of those lifts. I wish you the best of luck. I just like you started off strong and then faded out when i was growing up and finishing highschool and starting college. I just recently got back into it and putting the gym first. Its a great way to be man when you love this stuff! Train like a monster eat like a monster and grow like a monster :) Goodluck!

I update myself when time permits. Looked to me like you were still priming the machine so I was sticking to trying to get the general sense of your methodology or madness.

You don't seem to be doing much overhead work. I was under the impression that a lot of it is necessary for strongman competition. Any reason you're holding off?

12/3 Deads

Full workout:
SLDL with bar then 135

Deads:
225 x4
315 x3
405 x1
495 x1 (Fucking smoked it)
550 xfail ( got it caught on my fucking quads and couldn't finish the pull)
550 xfail ( broke the floor but couldn't get it above mid shin)
405 x10 ( this was punishment for failure)

All in all fairly disappointed, even though this is only my 7th week back, I felt I could do 550+. The weight came off the ground easy enough but I got is just past the knee cap and it buried into my quads and I just couldn't drag it free. The 405 x10 sucked fucking cawk, did 8 stopped for 45sec or so and did the last two walking the last rep into the squat rack. Pretty happy with grip and overall GPP so far but need to improve a lot.

I've tried bands once but never done any work with chains. Need to get a set of each.

Don't have access to a vid camera now. I'm probably going to buy one as soon as I start working again(quit my job in case you didn't know). Right now I'm just happy to be able to work out on a regular basis. I'm probably trying to push a little too hard too fast but it wouldn't be me otherwise.

Been pulling with chains or bands off and on lately. Lately with bands and it really works the back once you get near the knees. Got my chains from a shipyard down the street, rust and all.

I feel you on the injuries. Just glad to be in the gym.

Awesome, too bad there aren't any shipyards near Denver, authentic chains would be the best.

I actually wish it had been due to injuries for me. I was just working so much that I couldn't work out. Nothing like being 6,000 miles from home and working 14+ hour days to kill training.

In kilos, that would be three 20 kg plates a side yes?

Is this the independent action for each arm Hammerstrength press?

If so I use the same one, and I am chuffed when I get to 30 kg/66 lbs...........

All weights are in pounds. That three 20's and on 12kg on each side. Yes it's the independent motion one.

I'm only slightly bigger than you so we'll call it a draw weight wise. :)

I really wish I could have. I was working up in Scotland for about six months this year. I kept trying to figure out a time to hit the continent and your neck of the woods but couldn't get enough free time to do it.

To update.

Took a couple of weeks off over xmas to spend time with the family and take a trip. Just started back yesterday with light back and SLDL.

Today I did bis and ran for 30min on the elliptical (avg 4.5mph) it's like people have never seen a 300lb guy on an elliptical machine judging by the looks I was getting.

Well I am changing up my workout schedule a bit. As much as I hate to do it I am moving chest back to monday. So here's the new format.

Mon-Chest
Tues-Deads and back
Wed- Cardio and Bi's
Thurs- Shoulders and tri's
Fri- Legs

Doing deads the day before benching was killing my work. This way I can also space out chest/shoulders and deads/squats better.

As for last night I did bench 315 x3 x2, felt pretty good for being my second week back after the break.

Yeah it was kind of surprising I lifted well considering the activities of the night before.

Right now I am down to my 2x2 split for this week and two more. Then I go to max effort and heavy singles for four weeks. After that it's back to a lighter split then a straight progression for my contest on 5/24.
