any one have any info or opinions about wet or dry saunas? i know that this may not be the right forum or what ever but if we can talk about rollercoasters.... by the way i love rollercoasters. anyways after a hard workout i like to sit in the wet sauna at my gym for about 20 min and drink about 32 oz of gatorade and then refil with water. this is where i wind down befor i go home and deal with the lady. just not sure if its bad for me?

what's an infrared sauna and how is it good for you?

there was a guy in the sauna at my gym the other day with his heart rate monitor on. he was fat, but told me his heart rate got quite high when he sat in there and in the steam room. guess he was looking for an easy way to burn fat...i wonder if, for some really out of shape people, it's enough? he didn't tell me what his HR was, exactly.

Some people like to fool themselves into thinking that they have lost weight in a sauna. What you have done is dehydrated yourself of fluids. You'll weigh less, like what Boxers do to hit their weight. But, weight yourself the following day and there will be no difference. By all means use sauna to relax, unwind, and take it easy, but it isn't an easy way towards burning fat

I agree, I see some guys wearing hooded sweatshirts and jackets and shit, it's like, what the fuck for?! You smell, go take a shower.

Here is how you do the best thing on EARTH. Its so great.

After a hard workout, (I go after a back day usually), go sit in the steam room for 20 mins. Then, immediately go soak in the hot tup for 20mins. After this go right away and get a professional massage! UNREAL!!!!!!!

Your muscles are so loose and soft from being so hot, and they are VERY easy to massage. Be fore-warned though, you may want to arrange for a ride home. You almost feel like liqued when you are done. lol. Drink plenty of water as well as soon as you are done. To re-hydrate yourself, but also becuase your body releases lots of toxins bound up in your muscles, you want to flush them. I highly recommend this. But ... you have to be at a facility where you can do all three. THere is a place in my city that has them all, so I can do this. Gym->Steam Room->Hot Tub->Massage, all right after one another. I do this twice a month as my work covers it. Many people dont take advantage of this, but I milk it.

TOTALLY!! You guys would be SO surprised how many insurance plans will PAY for 2-4 massages a month. It's been proven to keep you healthier and so PLEASE, take full advantage. I was in a car accident a few months ago and messed up my back a bit, and I get free massage (every day if I want) for two years.

It really does speed recovery time. ( I think..?)

And rollercoasters are neat.

YGM slick~

In my sauna choice i got a bunch of fat women with thier saggy tits hanging out.. and thier wrinkled asses pressed against the bench. It's not foten i chose to wind down in the sauna.. for this reason

lol ... that would be fairly disturbing there pretty. Steam rooms are the way to go. Much better than a sauna in my opinion, and you wont be able to see the fat saggy beotches when you are in there. lol.

There's a big guy in our gym who wears a hooded sweatshirt, sweat pants and towel around his neck. One day he was doing the pec deck and when he was thru ,he said it's all yours. I got close to the machine and I about shit , the smell of body odor was so strong ,I skipped pec deck that day. He still goes to the gym but at a different hour now. Whew, phheeww!

I agree with riverrock, going in to relax or stretch out onc in a while is cool, but why would anyone want to dehydrate their muscles after a work out, day after day? Muscles need to stay hydrated, I would suggest sana on non weight training days, after or instead of cardio...

I know, I was in another club where they had the wirlpool inside the lockerroom and everyone was naked walking around. Gross. Now I go to another club that has wirlpool in the pool area, it's for all sexes. Mostly young people go to my gym and nobody's walking around naked. IT's the nasty old men that do, at NorthWest Athletic club. NASTY old men!

i think im gonna get in the sauna right after i get off that killer rollercoaster in n.j. thanks for all the input guys, the great thing about my gyms sauna is that no one ever uses it. so i spray it with the water hose to clean it out some and hit the thermostat with a cold rag, and watch all the steam come at once. almost unberable at times but after a good rugby game it helps keep the soreness away abit. now that i have cleaned up my diet and stopped drinkin in prep of my cycle, it keeps me on track knowing i can relax and let out the toxins at the same time.

The steam room is soooooooooooo relaxing, although fuckin hot. Makes your muscles loose and relaxed. And in my gym, trunks are mandatory, so no naked old dudes are hangin in the steam room.

their is nothing better than having a hard workout then going to the steam room to have sex. it was the best thing i have ever done. but you have to go really late...

How do you do this, unless of course you are gay? Is your steam room co-ed? Ours is in the mens change room along with the hot tub, showers, etc.

it's a good way to loose weight, strength and ultimately muscle size if that's your thing

hmm .. thats the first I have heard of steam rooms being catabolic. I think thats its water you will loose, not muscle tissue. You can easily rehydrate yourself during and after as well.
