I sold one of my cars and when I went to the bank to deposit the $, the teller didnt even bother to check to see if they are false or not,--there was $6000-- and I was wondering what are the chances for one who makes an withdrawal to get counterfeited money....

The guy who bought my car could have given me false moola and the bank didnt even bother to check...

????

Was it older currency? The newer stuff is very hard to counterfeit now, especially with all the security measures taken.

The teller probably knew what she was doing, since she's probably taken classes in counterfeit money detection.

A good counterfeit is very hard to be detected.....The teller was just putting the money aside and showed no concern of getting false dough....

I was expecting to have the money checked by some sophisticated machine ....

What you guys do not realize is that someone always checks the bills and cheques after the teller puts it in the plastic bag.

That is when they find the counterfiet bills.

How do they catch whoever gave them the bad money in that case, or are they interested in cathing them?

most counterfeiters dont deal with banks. they sell their product and it gets circulated into the general population. everyone has had a few phony bills on them at one time or another.

If one was conterfeit, you will be hearing from the United States Secret Service. This is one of their other functions besides taking a bullet for the President

They would just ask ya some questions.

The new bills are harder to counterfit, but not hard enough. We are gonna add color to the paper currency next year starting with the 20.

anyone know how counterfit money is made? do you need a machine? how much does the machine cost?

I don't know that much about it but... good counterfeiting is a very expensive endeavor, and yes, machines are required.
For an interesting movie revolving somewhat around counterfeiting (checks in this case) in the late 60's early 70's, check out Catch Me If You Can.

There was just a special on the History Channel (I think) about this.

It showed the design of the money, all the counterfeiting deterrants, the machine that checks the bills, how money goes in and out of circulation, etc.

I can't find a replay anytime soon though, it was just on a night or two ago.
