Replacement for Flat Bench

aug1516x

I of still recovering from a collar bone break earlier this year and it may not be back to full strength until the end of this year. Whenever I flat bench I get this pain where my break used to me which makes it impossible to bench much of anything. Incline bench is fine so I start out with that and go pretty heavy. Any ideas for some good exercises that I can try to replace flat bench? I could just do more sets of Incline but I would like some other exercises for my cheast.

How about:

Flat Dumbbell Presses, Dips, Flat Bench Dumbbell Flyes, and Dumbbell Pull-Overs.

I no longer perform flat presses. My chest has blown up from working with tons of inclines. As far as I am concerned, the incline press is the best overall chest builder.

What about the Hammer Stregnth Macine? Its the one you sit with your back straight up and push outward. Its the one of the only machines i would consider using, and i see ALOT of the big boys in my gym use it.

Weighted dips are an excellent alternative to bench presses make sure you lean forward to put more emphasis on your pecs.

You could temorarily bench like a power lifter if you "can." Power lifters don't bench wide, and so there is FAR LESS shoulder rotation.

DB pull-overs are a lat. exercise...

They also work the lower pec. . . . don't you read your anatomy and physiology?

Dumbbell Pull-Over
Difficulty Level: Intermediate
Similar to barbell pull-overs, this exercise works the lower chest as well as the upper lats and serratus muscles, which tie in under the outer region of the pecs and help create a "complete" chest package. Inhale and lower the dumbbell under strict control with your elbows held at a 45-degree angle. Exhale and lift the weight back to the starting position, directly over your chest.

Any questions?

Thanks for the suggestions. I work out at home so I don't have that hammer bench machine or whatever it is. I don't have a set of bars to do dips, I just do bench dips. I will give dumbell presses a try. I was thinking that if I just go heavy on my inclines and do some flys that should work out my cheast enough not to need flat bench, at least for a while, right?

lay off the flat bench for a while... Try doing flyes if they don't bother you instead and switch the routine a little so you do inclines first and then dips then follow up with flyes....
