Quick ? on squats.

Been a while since I've done squats and recently added them back into my workout since I got my powercage. My ? is, do ya'll let your heels come up at all. I thought you weren't spose to, but some videos show guys doing it this way. The first week I did them, I didn't realize how bad my for was, and was practically doing GM's, couldn't figure out why my hammy's were so sore and not my quads.
 
The weight should be in the middle of your foot, so your heels need to stay down. Try lifting your toes up a little, you should end up in the middle of your foot with the heels down.
 
If your heels are lifting you may have too narrow a stance or not be sitting back enough into your squat and your knees may be over your toes.

I wear Adidas shoes with the built in wooden heal block and the three straps.

Got'm off ebay for $100 and have no problems with a soild foot stance.

I've seen guys place their heels on a 2x4 behind them, but this was very ackward for me. I've seen guys do some stretching and get lose enough to do squats flat footed.

Platz is the squat man and he was flat footed with a narrow toes out stance.

I had a much better wokrout today. I think the problem was combined w/ bad stance and too much weight. Lowered the weight, and concentrated on my stance as I was going down and used the toe curl thing a little bit. I also have a problem w/ a pointed out stance. My knees are just messed up and because of that, i stand kinda opposite pigeon toed.
