questions about peanut butter

I've just bought peanut butter. I've heard about beeing a good source of fat and that it also tasted good.
I have some questions about it: in the ingredients of the one i bought it says it has crushed peanut, vegetal oil, lactic protein, wheat flour, sugar, salt and lecitin.

Is this regular composition? it is normal to have sugar?
Does peanut butter has a lot of carbs in it? or it is just residual composition?

is it good to use it in crum diet?

Unless its natural peanut butter your not getting any of the benefits of healthy fats. The processing used in brand names like Jiffy and Peter Pan strip away and destroy the healthy fats.

The only reason i mention that is because it sounds like you bought the processed kind. All the natural peanut butters that i have had just had peanuts and salt as the ingrediants.
 
Regular processed peanut butter has about 15 carbs, where natty has about 7. As you found out, processed has a lot of added sugar too. Buy natty, the oil will separate from it if its real, and look at the ingredients. It should just be peanuts, or peanuts and salt.
 
Actually, the labels, in regards to calories, protein, fat and carbs are usually identical. The problem w/the Peter Pan, Jiffy etc. are the hydrogenated oils they add.

This is some brand made in holland. Pindakaas. It is has a compact look.

there is almost no omega 3s in PB

but if you really want to eat PB, stick to natural PB (w/o vegetal oil, flour, sugar, salt and other preservatives)
 
Peanut butter with flour in it? What the...? Manu, where are you that you've never had peanut butter?

Anthrax, I think they're referring to monounsaturated fatty acids as "good fat," not the Omega-6 vs. Omega-3 thing.

I don't really want peanut butter, i was considering taking it only because of omega 3 and omega 6. And to add variety to fat sources.

And peanut itself?
 
As for pb.. always go with an all natural or organic brand (peanuts and salt thats about it). Its easy to add to most meals.

If your just looking for the good fats- how about flax seeds or flax seed oil?

Walnuts are one of the best nuts- as in the combo of good fats (omega 6 and 3) with fewer carbs.

If you go wit peanuts- get natural peanuts.

Peanuts are not a good source of Omega-3 oils. Once again, all-natural peanut butter is just ground up peanuts, so it's the same nutritional profile. (unless salt, sugar and/or other oils are added.) You can make peanut butter in your food processor.
 
i found recipe:

"Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups unsalted roasted peanuts
1 tablespoon peanut oil
Utensils:

food processor (You'll need help from your adult assistant.)
bowl
mixing spoon
storage container
measuring cups and spoons
Directions:

For smooth peanut butter:

Mix the peanuts with the peanut oil, and pour the mixture into the food processor.
Process the mixture until it's very smooth.
Store your smooth peanut butter in a sealed container in the fridge. It will be good for 2 weeks.
For chunky peanut butter:

Take about 1/4 cup out of your 1 1/2 cups of peanuts and set them aside.
Mix the rest of the peanuts with the oil, and pour the mixture into the food processor.
Process the mixture until it's very smooth, then stir in the peanuts that you had set aside.
Process a few seconds more to create the chunks in your chunky peanut butter.
Store your chunky peanut butter in a sealed container in the fridge. It will be good for 2 weeks. "´


With the same way maybe something like "Walnut butter" could be done :-)) what do you think?
 
no, Skippy is not a good brand. It is the processed kind. Look at the ingredients. Also, when you buy it, natural PB will have a layer of oil on the top. If you buy it and it is all smooth and processed-looking, its not natural.
 
I just buy natural pb, pour out the excess oil, add about 4 T of flax oil, and mix it around. Wallah, pb with omega 3's, and a lot to boot.

I just see an incovenient there (mixing the flax seed oil) unless you mix it when you are going to eat it, or have it in a opaque container the flax seed oil seems to deteriorate when exposed to light.
I think i am not wrong here.
 
Peanut butter just tastes so much better than flax. I use natural peanut butter, cashew butter (cashews mixed with canola oil --- cashews are lower in fat) and almond butter. I use flax seed oil once a day or so, fish oil capsules with some meals when I remember, and peanut butter if I have already had flax and need more fat.
