Questions about Jehovas

Can someone outline their ideological basis? How do they differ from Catholics/Protestants?

I was confirmed a Lutheran, and Jehovas (and Mormons) were simply listed as non-Christian cults, with no explanation. I work with two Jehovas currently, one whom I meet at the gym pretty regularly.

Please keep this civilized, and not an outright bash of any religion.

Hm. They insist Jesus was crucified on a pole, not a cross, and make a big deal about this.

They believe contact with non-Jehovahs should be minimized except for their infamous spreading of the word.

They are extremely prude, sex before marriage, or marriage to a non-Jehovah is a mortal sin and will get you excommunicated from the Jehovahs, none of them will be allowed even to talk to you or as much as look you in the eye, even your direct family and your parents.

You are also not to use violence ever, not to watch TV, never to show your naked body to anybody but your wife or a doctor, you can not take any medication and you are to spend a certain amount of your time trying to save non believers

I'm fairly certain that they aren't forbidden from all medications or tv. My co-worker is 330+ lbs and is on insulin and heart medication. He also has no qualms about advil, is litterally addicted to TV, yet is one of the head guys in the local chapter or whatever its called.

When I was married the first time, one of my hubby's sisters became a Jehovah's witness and she had a kid -- they were Catholic before.....but I felt bad for the kid, cuz all of a sudden, when they became witnesses, they stopped celebrating Christmas & birthdays. So the kid no longer was allowed to give or receive presents and no longer got an acknowledgement of her Bday.....weird kid tho, cuz she preached pretty heavily for a 6 year old...

No birfdays or holidays, SUCK.

Cool thing is when you hire a JayDub is they'll pretty much work any holiday except Passover, which they "observe" but don't "celebrate".

They refuse to vote, salute the flag, sing the "Star Spangled Banner, celebrate birthdays or Christmas, won't take blood transfusions, and they can't join the armed forces.


My mother as an RN years ago had to watch a little Jehova boy die in the
hospital bed because his parents refused to give him a blood transfusion.

Strange thing is that many of these conservative religions look at us in similar shock
at what we do and allow our children to do like piercings, cussing, trashy clothes etc.
Its all in your perception of what is normal I guess..

My girlfriends grandfather was a Jehovas lunatic his enitre life, was an elder in their church for nearly 50 years.. donated 10% of his entire adult income to the church..

When he was put in a rest home and then later a hospital.. not one person from the church ever visited him.. not even once..

They are another cult.. they want your money and control.. When they cant exercise either of those anymore.. they want nothing to do with you..

Id accept my son being in prison before Id accept him entering into that lunacy..
