Question on legality of scamming

Ok, I've been pondering this for awhile now and I haven't figured it out. What are the legal ramifications of scammers? What I mean is, if I had what I thought was a legit source, sent him money, and got no gear in return, only a bunch of bs, what could possibly be done to put an end to the scammers activities? Is it a crime to send someone a list of AS, and then accept money from them for the AS.? What if I was a fed. and was trying to bust a supplier, only to find that the supposed supplier was a scammer.....would there be any legal issues with that?

It's been a long day and I think I've been doing too much thinking....I'll let you'all help me now.

Fraud

Well, it could be fraud and/or mail fraud.

But since you'd have to admit to conspiring to commit a felony, I don't think you'd get much legal justice.

Just beat him down.

In New York, when individuals sell beat (fake) cocaine, heroin, or marijuana, they are charged with a Public Health Law misdemeanor. The crime was designed to target pharmacists that intentionally substituted one medicine for another.
Scamming is, at common law, larceny by trick. So any scammer, if busted by law enforcement, could also be charged with larceny.
As for what you can do--nada, except e-mail a mod and see if he/she can help you out with the source.

you shouldn't blame the scammer, blame yourself... you fell for it without researching the guy. also, i lose respect for people who tell the fed's about scammers.. makes you look worse.
