question about bikes

well, I have my permit - drivers beware!!!!! LOL

Now, I was looking at this 2004 Suzuki GS500 for 3500$:

The question is - if I need to lower it, can it be done? I heard that 250's and 500's cant be lowered. I would go through the dealerships, but from what I've seen so far, teh metro Detroit stores dont really have smaller bikes like this in the showroom so I can test its weight, height and balance

We had a friend who is 4'11" and 90 lbs who rode a 900 Ninja. She had the padding in the seat shaved to allow her to touch the ground, with her tip toes. Not sure how much you can lower a bike like that anyway.

the old Ninja 750 we had was lowered 4 inches and I was still not flat footed. How did your friend ride that way, only touching the ground on tippytoes? It didnt bother her balancing that monster?

Oh, and is 3500$ too much for this bike I wanna get?

I know Suzuki Katana 600cc & 750cc can be lowered easily to fit shorter inseams...

I think this GS500 would be a waste of money, especially if you have to pay to have it lowered... It's a "beginners" bike, and your skill level as a rider would out grow it within 3 months, if not 3 weeks... It's going to be terriblely under powered with that engine.... and when it's time resell it to upgrade to your new ridering skill level, you never get anywhere near the money you put in to it.

:karate:

Shaving the seat is probably your only option. How long is your inseam? Mine is 31.5" and I have no problem sitting on any of the 600s. As for balance, the GSXR 600 is a pretty easy bike to hold up at slow speeds or a dead stop.

$3500 for a 2004 can be a very good price, as long as it's not going to cost you another $2000 to make it ridable for yourself.

My inseam is 27 inches. This bike sits at 31.5. At the bike forum I am at people throw fits if you mention you wanna start out on a 600. But I did a research just now and this bike is just as heavy as my husbands R1. So, yeah, I think I might go with a 600 now, cuz my only fear was the weight and balancing it at low speed. But looking at the weight of this one, why even bother with it.

Which bike would be more forgiving - R6, GSXR 600, Honda CBR600F4i or a 636 or 600 Ninja?

yeah, I was thinking of the same - that I am not gonna get even close to what I paid for it when I decide to get another one

If you wanna have fun, and still keep some resale value....

I'd look into a Ducati Monster 620, to start out with...

the easiest to ride and most "forgiving" (hate that term) is the F4i...its the most comfortable also. its streetable and can be raced with small up grades and the bike is always in high demand...resale is a given. it might be a little tall tho- but it is very balanced and predictable...very good for intro racers....R6 is small...im going to guess that this bike will fit you best, but its a monster- powerwise. none of the bikes above are "slouches" to say the least...they are ALL very HIGH PERFORMANCE bikes, all fast, all handle- the most under-powered would be the F4i....again, however, not a slouch by any means.

i was always a fan of the triumph 600tt
of course Im a turbo Busa owner so what the hell do I really know about bikes? :spin:

She had to find a curb to kick the stand. She was a crazy woman. She was leggy for her height. She had to sit on a phone book in her car to see over the dash on her Volvo. Short torso I guess, but not freakishly so.

She must have had a humongous punany.

Question. You get your permit, and you can go and INMEDIATELY buy any bike you want? regardless of power?

Over here, you get your permit (after lots of time, lessons and bank) and during the first two years you can drive only up to 250cc... only after that period can you move to bigger/better things.

I've been contemplating doing it for a while now, but waiting 2 years is a bit much... then again, I guess it would be easy to get yourself killed riding a 900cc+ bike, with no experience and doing 150+mph around here. So everything is for a reason, but fuck...

dont buy that bike, it is a naked bike with this big ugly fairing attached to it, it is heavy and sounds like shit.

It also needs like 10 minutes to warm up, I would say get a 250 or 500 ninja, those bikes are wayyyyyy more fun and have alot more pep !!!

Here you can take the written test, then do your riding test on a 125cc piece of crap (as long as it's "street legal"). My riding test was a 20 mph jog about 1/4 of a mile then back. You'll get your motorcycle license printed while you wait and then you can go straight to the store and buy the meaniest, biggest, nastiest bike they make.

Or better yet, you could do what I did. I walked into Destination Motorcycle (a local dealer), bought a 1000cc sportbike (a 999R) and picked it up right after lunch and drove it off. Did they want to see my license? Nope. Did they want to see my proof of insurance? Nope. They just used a magic marker to write-up my temporary tag, took my check, and sent me on my way.

At least you don't need a test for the purchase of high-performance semiautomatic firearms. Now if they'd do away with that nuesance drivers license-based check we'd be all set.

I want to add to this: if I buy it from a private sale in the classifieds I dont even need drivers licence or permit. Show me the money!!!! Mwhahahahaaaa

I hear a lot of people saying a person should start off on 250 or 500. But those bikes either I wont be able to sell them or they will sell, but I lose money. I hate the 250's. The 500's are just as heavy as a 600. Here is where I'm stuck and not sure what to do. Any bike I get, I will still need to lower it, so the height is not that big of a problem. My husband can do it himself. Was leaning towards the F4i anyways. This is the one I am looking at for 3500$:

If the guy already sold it, thats my bad luck I guess :whatever:

my crazy husband wants me to start on Busa, just because he is always crying about how he wants one. Stupid.

$3,500 is to damn much for that bike. . .IMO.

THose are ugly too :worried:

FG...the F4i is a very safe bet all the way around....IMO, for "you" there's no negative.

PBR, Ortiz - I shouldnt trip because I am about to start on a 600 right away? Different people tell me different advices. I just dont want the hassle of thinking how the fuck am I gonna sell 250 or a 500. This way, I get a bike I wont grow out of right away and I like it. 2 postive things, add the resale value, thats 3.

I am still so nervous about all this. Riding a 125cc on a parking lot and riding a 600cc on the street is like night and day
