Putting My Mother In a Nursing Home...

Well...

My mother is in the hospital once again suffering from a diabetic spike. She was found by the housekeeper in bed and it wasn't pretty. The house is in horrible shape and she obviously can no longer care for herself. She had her leg amputated a couple of months ago due to the diabetes at which point I told her she needed to start caring for herself or she is going to leave me no choice. I live in CA and she in OR and its not easy caring for an elderly parent from over 600 miles away.

This really sucks ass.

I did it for 12 years in my last relationship with both parents. Her parents. Mother was diabetic, developed gang green on her back from bed sores ect. Father had a massive stoke because of fen fen the weight loss drug and had half his brain removed due to massive swelling. Ultimately he was like a 12 year old from that point on. Both parents were in a nursing home and we would go there every weekend and have dinner, do their laundry, take them outside ect. The only thing we could do was make them as comfortable as possible being confined to beds and wheelchairs. It's not easy and takes some getting used to. Just keep her mind alert and as sharp as possible. It's harder for her than it is for you remember that and be as supportive as you can be bro. I'm really sorry to hear that. Neverrrr like reading stuff like that. If u need any advice I'd be happy to give it. Just ask. Hope it all works out.

Very sorry to hear Dave. I am dealing with the same thing. But I end up moving in to help. After my diet and bitching. She is now not diabetic at the moment. I can really feel for you on the distance. 600 miles is real bad drive. But, on the real the emotional toll is going to be hard on both. She is going to be pissed and you feel bad for the choice. I hope I never have to make a choice like that. Be strong man and my thoughts and prayers go out for y'all.

:-(......how old is she?

She's only 70, but the diabetes has aged her way beyond her years. Watching my mother go this route is probably the primary reason I'm so vehement about diet and exercise.

Once again, I'd like to thank you all for your well wishes and concerns. I've got a lot to do now as I'm going to be moving her back close to me (she doesn't want to move back to CA) against her wishes, selling her home and finding a nursing facility. I fucking hate this.
