Diabetes Sucks...

It really does. It's such a horribly, ravaging disease that in many respects (Type 2) is entirely preventable. I just got back from Portland to tend to business that mother needs as she is still in rehab to get fitted for a prosthetic leg...after losing it to complications associated with her diabetes. She's not yet 70 but she looks years beyond her age, she's almost blind, has absolutely no feeling in her extremities...heartbreaking. And I'm not even gonna get started on what it's like managing her care from 600 miles away.

And people wonder why I am such a "diet nazi"...They should see what I see and then ask that question.

My dad just turned 70 and he's pill-dependent diabetic. He's way overweight, and generally has shitty diet. He's extremely lucky to have no complications from it.

Sorry to hear brother....I hope I'm I'm as good shape as you when I'm as old as you

Loosing my dad this past September has motivated me to workout and eat right. I don't to let myself get like that with something that is treatable. I had already tighten up but it sealed the deal with me. It's hard to sit and watch someone do that to theirselves. He was only 62.

Thanks guys. Yeah, my mother needs insulin injections, and she's lost a lot of weight lately but the damage is done. Her body is shot to hell. So Wootoom....didn't you mention that you were going to get tested? Have you had it done yet?

Damn, that would be rough to manage that from hundreds of miles away.

My Grandfather lost about half his foot from diabetes and eventually passed way before his time. Scares the shit outta me. He was always eating so much sweets/candy and pretty much force feeding it to me when I was little tyke. You would never see me with that shit after he died.

That sucks. My cousin got diabetes during her last pregnancy. She was never fat until they put her on the meds, which caused more problems that resulted in more meds, caused weight gain, more problems, more meds and thus the vicious cycle. She got off the meds her doc kept dumping on her and viola, the weight she was trying to lose almost melted off, got her cholesterol in check, more energy, started to take cinnamon and other OCT supplements to help stabilize her sugar levels. only thing she's continued to take was metaformin, so her story is a happier one.

Both my inlaws have,it so I worry about mangiggles, but he's sloppy with his eating habbits, no sugar but fats :(
Take care of yourself simply dave to make sure you stay healthy, sounds like you got it covered :)
