PS3 owners should check out their new 7.1 headphones

I have a 5.1 system that sounds pretty good, but you have to crank it so loud to hear all the details in the sound.

These suckers are nice and crisp, with bass tight enough to feel every gunshot and explosion. So far I played the opening stage of MGS4 and it is full of ambiance and bass from distance shellings. Plus you hear so many more little nuances like in the Dolby Digital intro for instance.

Killzone 2's opening stage sounds awesome as well. This game arguably has the best sounding weapons in general, and the few I've tried have a nice, dense "pop" to them. I'm sure MP gaming will also be a step up being able to hear things like footsteps clearly.

Being only "virtual surround" though, the directional awareness with headphones will never be as distinct as a true 7.1 home theater, but for the price it sure is a better bargain. Plus the bonus of being able to game at night without disturbing the GF lol.

Another thing, they're wireless, and charge the same way as the DS3. They're absolutely silent when idle too, which is surprising for a wireless product. No hissing/buzzing/etc.

I checked reviews on Amazon but got them locally at Gamestop.

PS3 owners also have another cool deal I just found:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011...s-psn-on-tuesday-plus-subscribers-get-50-off/

Looks like a PS+ subscription is paying off little by little. Can't go wrong with 3 free games that were actually good.

Interesting. These look promising. I wasn't that impressed with the latest offering from Turtle Beach, but may give these a try.

Interesting. Do you have one for the X360?

You got a PSN+? I didn't bother. It's good to hear that it's working out for you.

No, but 360 doesn't support 7.1 anyways.

hanselthecaretaker............you sir are the man!!!! Got mine today, and these things are f'ing AMAZING!!!! Easily the BEST gaming headphones/headset I have ever used in my life! Worth every penny of the $100 or so they cost, and durable enough that I don't ever see having to replace them. Turtle Beach could take some pointers from these for sure!

Thank you for the recommendation bro, this was greatly appreciated! My wife thanks you as well. She can only take the whine of Formula 1 cars for so long!

Cool, good to hear! I just finished Resistance 3 last night and this stage is insane with them on-

Gonna try God of War 3 next.

why the fuck do you need headphones to play video games

Never said "need", but if you "want" to hear all the details in the sound design of a game without having to crank it up to ear-bleeding volumes, they're well worth it. It's the same reason people wear them for music, only games add more of the dynamic/interactive factor.

You dont "Need" them, but I am a Formula 1 nut, and love positional sound. I like the ear bleeding whine of engines while racing, and I can now have that, without annoying my wife while she's trying to sleep! Mind you, I'm over 120 feet from our bedroom.......yes I like it THAT loud!
