Private Messages - WFT?!?

I just spotted a post by a Mod in a thread reminding a member that the 'P' in 'PMs' stands for 'Private'.

Is it official policy that quoting a received message without the sender's permission is a sanctionable offence? I'd be grateful if a mod or admin could clarify this, please.

I currently have no reservations about copying a PM in part or entirety onto the open board. Please advise us if such an act would lead to official sanctions regardless of content. I have yet to identify which part of the TOS I would be in contravention of.
 
I'm just the messenger. It seems that recently, a series of drama-related acts could have been avoided with members applying some of that old "common sense" thing.

I'd trust you'd know what to post and what not to, being you are a sound guy (and a British, God saves us).

There is no policy yet, only that that manners dictate, the same way there is no policy against sending PMs asking for K. Until know, it is a trust based system.

I'd let Admin clear this up, though, since they will have to decide what the final oficial rule is, or the best practice.

Agreed, betraying a confidence would be shoddy behaviour and, obviously, betraying personal information is a bannable offence in itself, anyway.

If lines are being drawn in the sand, though, they should be visible.

No, I was thinking more in the direction of a member being warned for posting up someone's Karma spam message or posting up the Karma Pyramid emails that were going around.

Equally, though, if one is stupid enough to hand out incriminating information then there's only one person to blame when it goes public, once you get over losing an e-friend.

I'm merely asking whether there is an official policy to sanction exposure of PMs or whether the official policy is that anything goes although you'd rather it didn't.

nope. I fully understand those concepts. I just think it's odd to expect that t behavior in this type of community with the karma and other systems in place as they are.

NO internet site will ever be witout duplication of pm's and drama... i've learned the hard way... sure most have. You don't say shit to anyone either via pm or phone or email that you don't consider public information. Pm's are fair game to some people... please correct me if im wrong but im under the impression that some have fair game to what goes on behind the scenes... so that being said, how can anyone say that pm's are confidential? nothing is trust worthy ... no where... NO WHERE. you say something be ready to back it up or have it spilled... otherwise chose your friends wisely and your keep your enemy's close.
 
frisky you are right. I dont say anything here or anywhere on the interwebs that I wouldnt be comfortable with all of you knowing. Consider everything you post or send in a PM or karma message to be open game. If you stick to that, then you wont have to worry.
