Prices Abroad vs. US

I've ordered from a certain source before and the stuff I got seemed legit, but I still question it because of the low prices (approx 33%+ cheaper than other sources I've seen). I asked him how he could sell at such low prices...His explanation was that because he lives abroad it's much cheaper and US prices are very inflated compartively. Is this a legit answer? Is gear THAT much cheaper abroad?

yes ,in some countries gear is dirt cheap.
