Pressure at the Self Checkout

So how many of you take advantage of the self-checkout lane at your local grocery store? I do this often because sometimes I feel like Im faster than the actual employees.

One thing that drives me up a wall though is this: I'll be happily scanning along and after just 6 items, you get the message "the bagging area is full. please bag items" at which time you step down to the end of the belt and you start bagging stuff up. but no sooner do you hear that voice again saying "if you're finished scanning, press Finish and Pay". Bitch! I'm not done bagging these things down here! You're not giving me enough time!

I always feel so much pressure in this situation. Bag your items. Arent you done bagging yet, fuck you're slow. Please pay now you slow poke. Once I bag the items at that end, where exactly do I put them? My basket is still sitting by the scanner with lots more to scan so the bags cant go in there....SO you end up piling the bags up at the end of the belt (not much room). I have even seen people start piling bags up on the floor. Hell, Im not putting my groceries on anyone's floor/

If you have a lot of groceries, you end up with this back and forth process numeous times before the whole thing is done. Kind of stressful no?

What I do like is when one of the lazy employees actually bags my stuff while I'm scanning it. That's what I'm talkin about!

In 2001 I was at a self checkout at this grocery store in the hood.. One of the items didnt scan and I didnt notice so I was walking out after I paid and these 2 sec guards came out, total punks and fat.. and they are like come with me.. I was like WTF?
SO they take me to backroom and were like let me see your receipt.. So I showed them then they said one of the items didnt scan and were trying to accuse me of stealing.. I had almost 3k in my pocket and showed it to them then they stfu

I hate those self-service scanners. If they are that desperate to cut costs and need to get rid of employees that badly, they should just close their doors and be done.

And that "bagging area" error message... that engineer should be skinned alive with a dull knife.

I look at it this way......food is so expensive and the cost of en employees salary is added to the cost of a $5 box of cereal, they can bag and scan my food.
I refuse to be a food store clerk unless the food is half off

They probably assumed you were a drug dealer and just might "drive by" their asses over a $3.00 bag of cookies.

LMAO. You're good, but there is still room for improvement, Padawan.

I have learned to put the items on the belt in such a way as to maximize the use of space at the end of the conveyor belt!

We have the kind that you have to scan then bag and if it doesn't register the weight of the item you have just scanned fast enough it has a melt down, "please place your item in the bagging area, please place your item in the bagging area". Now that it's already in there when you take it out to re place it in there it says, "please wait for assistance, please wait for assistance".

It's annoying as hell.

More annoying than the brain dead stoner checkout chick with a face full of metal that always comments on how gross my food is and states that she's a vegan and only eats Kraft mac and cheese and does have any sort of reaction every time I say "of course you do".

they don't have those in FL because too many people are too dumb to use it and/or steal.

they've been using those in NJ for as long as i can remember, tho

I hate those self check lanes. They always start yelling at me to put the item in the bag before I scan another item. Damn it! I already put the damn item in the bag! So, I will take it out and put it in harder thinking it will sense that the item is in the bag now, but it will yell at me again to put the item in the bag. Screw it. I never use the self check anymore. I figure I'm not in that much of a hurry at the checkout.

No, actually it is what velvett was saying not what smurfy was saying but I hadn't read velvett's post before posting it.

Now please put your comment in the bag...lol.

Since I like to shop after 11pm at the grocery store I almost always use the self checkout. I fucking love it because I don't have to have inane banter with someone I don't care about or want to talk to.

It does get a little annoying when the stupid thing does what Vel described, but it's so worth it to not have to talk to anyone.

Cheers,
Scotsman

at 8 my albertsons closes all lanes and everything is self check out, i want to bring chair and just sit there watching the soccer moms blow up and storm out when they find out they have to check there full baskets themselves haha one lady tossed up her hands and said "F%^&" this i'm going to safeway and walked out

I prefer self-scanning unless the chick behind the counter is very hawt. We have one girl at the local Food Lion who should be doing porn - not bagging groceries.

At Home Depot I always use the self-checkout. People there are slow.

+1.......I like to watch people get frustrated with them........they're not hard to figure out at all....The key is not to stuff the fucking bags so full, dont lean on the bagging area, dont let your kids hang off the bagging area, etc.....

Fuck no, I hate the republican self-checkout scam. I've used twice, both times total disaster. People are so stupid with them they have to hire someone to do the work for you here at the local grocery.

As far as im concerned.....if they really want to eleminate checkers the best idea i've heard is the microchip where you just push your cart thru a scanner. Of course im already developing a device that is similar to a radar detector and will "confuse" the waves and turn $200.00 baskets into $10.00. Of course this will be for personal use only.

My 2nd and last exp. with a self-checkout.................I scanned about $100.00 worth of shit at the homo depot before it went haywire. Said fuck it and went and got in line. Then the checker started having difficulties and the cunt behind me went awol and went to the self thing I was using. I started to say " maam that thing is messed up" before she said "huuh! I'm in a hurry!" So she scans all her crap, swipes credit card and ends up owing for all my shit too. Rest of the story...........she was pissed, I lmfao.

Soon everyone will be required to have one of these installed and there will be MP's with shot guns guarding the food instead of fat punk security guards.

I saw some natives trying to scan like a whole set of lawn funiture in the self check out once. It wasn't going well and the line of peeps was getting pissed. A manager had to tell them to go to a real line. My brother and I were rolling.

I guess eight thousand years of imbreading will do that.

layinback went to use the self-checkout at his grocery store, but was dissapointed when he found out it wasn't a mirror :D

Self checkout machines are like global warming (to a degree). I was on a project to put one in. All evidence pointed to that self checkouts took about 30% longer then cashier assisted once, but people believed that they took shorter (even didn't agree when timed).

I love it.

they are a pain in the ass no doubt but what i dont like is my local store will have like 1 lane open with a cashier and a long line and then 6 self-checkouts available. so instead of waiting in line for someone else to do it, I usually opt to do it myself unless I really have a cart full of goods.

I absolutely refuse to use self-checkouts Not only does it help to reduce the number of employees at a store (i.e., puts someone out of a job), but the store doesn't give me a discount for doing my own checkout.

I've been known to just leave a cart full of groceries at the front of the store (including chicken, seafood, milk, etc.) when I was told late at night that there wasn't a clerk that could check me out and that only the self-checkout lanes were open. Screw that!

Nothing should be stopping you from buying groceries to run home and cook.

This makes me very mad.

Watch what happens during long weekends and holiday weekends. I had to study the impact of the self checkout to the non-self checkout.

You can't believe how boring that is.
