Praise the Deadlift "How has it helped you?"

I know it mostly works the lower back, but does the lower back get bigger? Thicker?

Deads built columns of granite on both sides of my spine. My erectors grew like mad.

There's a pic that was taken of me from the rear shooting a gun with my shirt off a couple months before I started deads. There's another one of me fighting about 6 or 7 months after I started DL'ing. There's a HUGE difference in my erectors and lower traps. I remember these pics clearly because my back looked so damn big compared to the first one(not just the thickness), and the only difference in my training was the addition of deads.

Deads stimulate back growth that other things can't really touch.

to be honest the erectors are mostly worked staticly in the deadlift as are the upper back muscles.

back extensions and reverse hypers would be a more direct way to hit th erectors.
Mine are popping up big time since I hit the explosive hypers

The spine has to flex for them to worked properly.
But then again seeing how most people deadlift, maybe they are worked dynamicly ;)

Take a look at my avatar.

BUT it's also taught me that patience and hard work are a virtue

Brick..............House. ;)

slinky - GREAT back pic.

deadlifts really pack on the back and leg mass, I use a wide sumo stance. Gotta love em.

Casual - I just cant see replacing traditional deads with leg curls. Not the same by a mile. compound, compound, compound until you have enough size to worry about whittling down. And do you seriously measure your ass dude? :)

Like I said earlier, an exercise is just a means to an end. Deadlifts aren't the be-all and end-all of exercises, it's just a weighted hip extension. Good for building your glutes and hamstrings. I don't want to build my glutes. Therefore I won't do deadlifts.

And yes, I measured my hiney. I wasn't continuously monitoring it, heck no. I just woke up one day and could barely squeeze into my jeans. Then I measured and was like "well that explains a lot."
