Powerlifting Meet Newbie

so i read in another thread about these local powerlifting meets. this may be fun, and i want to take part in something like this, even if i go and get killed.

i have a few questions though, naturally :)

i'm 16 years old, 5'8" 160lbs, no experience, and i sure as hell don't own any equipment (straps, bench shirt, suit, belt, i own nothing, i lift in a t shirt and shorts)

bench - "bb" style: 200 (this was my PR from 4 months ago)
oly full squat: 200 (PR from 3 months ago)
deadlift: 265 with snatchgrip (gonna test again in a week or two, this is about 1mo old)

first off, like i said, i don't own any equipment, nor do i know how to use it. can i just go in raw?

secondly, on the website http://www.powerlifting-ipf.com/, for the records and such, what does each weight column mean exactly?

and i want to know about the weight/age classes. under the records section according to the listings, i in the SUB JUNOIR category... in the 75 kilo weight class.

THE RECORD FOR THE WEIGHT CLASS IS 180lbs bench?... or 180 kilo bench?

it better be 180kilos, or else i'd have some sort of ipf record?

any help is appreciated, and please keep the "omfg why even ask those stupid questions" comments to yourself, i don't know what's stupid and what isn't :p

Alright first off yes do a meet you will have a great time and learn a lot.

To your first question: Equipment is always optional, the only required thing at meets is a singlet.

Second yes all those weights on the records are in kilos. First column is the competitors weight class, then name, then country, then weight lifted, then date lifted and finally where the meet was held.

Also think about the fact in bench you have to make a full pause (1sec) or so on your chest with the bar not moving at all not even rocking back and forth. then you have to press evenly and lock out evenly most feds. only allow a 1inch difference on your lockout. For squats you have to make whatever the depth is that they require(different rules for different feds.) then come up in one smooth motion and lock out. For deads it is one smooth motion all the way up and an even lockout with shoulders behind hips. If you stop on deads at any point other than the top the lift won't count.

Cheers,
Scotsman

Do it...it's fun!!! I'd check out the rules for whatever meet you're going to do - it's a lot more technical than I thought!

jesus... why the 1 second pause?

i think i might be able to get only around 190lbs off my chest with 1 second pause lol

Go do a meet, it'll be a great experience. And don't even think about those world record lifts, it's highly unlike you'll be running into any of those peeps.

As for the pause, it's not really a full one second. You're basically touching the bar to your chest and stopping it for a complete pause, no bouncing and you wait for an audible press signal. This doesn't take a full second.
