Post up! I wanna know who has the most DUIs

I agree that the punishment should be more severe once you're in an accident and less severe for just driving under the influence.

It looks like JavaGuru's state has something like that on the books.

I think that the emotional appeals (like the one that was a big trend around here a few months ago--remember Jacqui?) are gonna have a field day with this, like we need to get the drunk drivers off the road BEFORE they cause an accident.

Matt you and I have a history of arguing so I'm not trying to flame you here, just offering another viewpoint.

LOL bro no prob.

JavaGuru's state (like most) have additional punishments for DUI accidents, but they retain their severe punishment for non-accident DUI.

Non-accident DUI is a traffic violation. The key should be getting the operators off of the road. fining them, and getting them back to their cars when they can drive.

Any system like this would be less expensive than the current protocol of incarceration and criminal charges.

DUI is responsible for fewer fatalities than speeding. Let the laws reflect this.

If we were serious about saving lives, we could have a national speed limit of 15 miles per hour. Traffic fatalities would stop. Or, ban cars.

You can't punish people who don't do anything wrong. Driving drunk without an accident is no more wrong than speeding without an accident.

Have driven drunk probaly over 200 times until I got my DUI. Havn't drove with a drop in me since (been a year now). Am I proud of this? No. Am I glad it happened. Yes.

That's the official MADD reasoning behind ever lowering BAC's and severe punishments. However, if you apply this reasoning to DUI's then it should also be applied to every other "potentially deadly" traffic violation as well. Could you imagine if people were getting a year in jail and five year license suspensions for getting two speeding tickets.

MADD is about as irrational an organization as it gets. On their website they call drunk driving the "most common violent crime." Can you tell me how the hell they equate a BAC over the legal limit with assault, rape and murder? Their whole propaganda campaign is based on stories of "evil" drunk drivers with multiple DUI's killing innocent families, the emotional appeal. I gurantee you can go into the literature and find cases where people with multiple speeding tickets wiped out entire families as well. The whole situation shows why laws should based on reason and not emotion, damn women's sufferage.

Good thing that happened, otherwise you might have driven drunk a lot.

Also what about old people? Remember that old guy who mowed down all those people in a market in Santa Monica (I think)?

They need to get yearly testing for old folks on the books too.

I agree about the elderly drivers my man...This guy will probally get hardly nothing at all...BUT, take the same situation, and apply it to a 21 year old driver and see what THEY would get...Another double standard for the books....
