why do PLers and especially the whole westside contingent say that their athletes are stronger in the squat than olympic athletes?
i don't think that at all is an accurate analogy, no matter how knowledgable dave tate is. what if you compared a 500lbs PL'er to a 500lbs oly squatter? the PL'er is not stronger than the oly athlete. similarly, if you took a 1000lbs PLer and a 1000lbs oly squatter (in my dreams) and compared them.
an olympic full squat is a disadvantaged lift compared to a PLer squat in terms of leverage, yes? plus, one only goes to parallel (i don't know why people still call it "rock bottom").
so if the average trainee can say, squat 300lbs, and can squat 400 PL'er style does that make him stronger than the athlete that can squat 350 oly style?
what about olympic elite super heavyweights that can squat in the 850s with a pause at the bottom?
discuss please, i don't understand why this quote is so often used when it is not a level playing field we are talking about.
(curgeo i took the quote from what you posted in the smith squat. i'm not calling you out or anything, i'm just not going to reword it
)
If you take a 1000lbs squatter and ask him to full squat 500 he can do it...it's warmup weight for him, but if you ask a 500lbs olympic squatter to do 1000lbs PL squat he would get crushed.
