Please Fucking Help!~ Eating Large Amount Of Fat And Can Get In Keto!!

GLP

This is about the 5th week and things were going fine but this week I am getting screwed. Third day of high fat no carbs and cant get the strips to show shit and feel like I am starting to get a little bloated. The only things I have changed are started taking OTC sleep aid and instead of drinking diet coke I have been drinking diet Dr. Pepper and it does taste sweeter. I am scared that all this fat I am taking in is going to go to fat. Did eat some heavy carbs on the carb up days almost two boxes of cereal, but have never had this problem getting in to ketosis before.
The strip did show a trace amount when I came home from work but after a couple diet Dr. Peppers and a short workout showed nothing again. FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!!

first of all, the sticks don't mean anything-If you keep carbs below 20 a day, you are in ketosis, but you must count the soda-if you substitute crystal light for soda, you'll be safer

If I remember correctly some people are very sensitive to the citric acid in diet colas. Depending upon your sensitivity and the amount your drinking this could be the problem.

DDC - why is Crystal Light safer than diet soda?

dr dipasquale said so in his book the metabolic diet-I'll take his word for it

Well Dr. Dipasquale needs to be smacked in the face, that, or you need to be more clear on your response because your giving bad advice to this guy.

GLP - First off, don't forget that the strips do NOT have to turn purple to neccesarily indicate that you are in Ketosis. I've lost weight when they haven't changed color.

Now, on to what i believe is your problem because i had the same thing happening to me when i first started low carbing.

The problem is that Diet Coke, Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Mt. Dew, Diet blah blah and the powdered Crystal Light all use the same artifical sweetner, Aspartame, which effects your insulin in more ways than ANY other artificial sweetner. I was following all of the rules, but didn't fall into ketosis until after i cut out the Crystal Light. The BOTTLED stuff is made with Splenda, and i seem to be doing ok with it, but i've only been drinking it for about a week. Also, look into Fruit 2 O. Its flavored water that is REALLY good, at least to me. But nothing beats regular water. Diet RC Cola is also made with Splenda and i think i'm going to start trying it in a few weeks. Just remember that regular water is best, and i know its tough, but try not to have any more than 1 or 2 other types of drinks a day. Even though Splenda is a great artificial sweetner, it can still screw around with your blood sugar just a tad.

Also, always remember that if you stop loosing weight on a low carb diet, then its usually whatever you just added that is screwing you up. The easiest thing to do is start off strickt and let the full effects work, and then slowly add foods and drinks that you either know for a fact are compatible to have, or that you have reviewed carefully and found to be compatible. And don't forget that everyone reacts differently to these products.

The strips are meaningless. And, if anything, aspartame will INCREASE the rate of ketones burned, thereby leaving less excess ketones to be excreted onto your strip. This is because aspartame can temporarily raise insulin levels, which reduces blood glucose levels. This can be even more dramatic on a ketogenic diet where blood glucose may drop too low and you'll feel unwell. But your body should compensate by burning more ketones instead. If anyone has any scientific evidence that aspartame can increase blood glucose levels enough to keep you out of ketosis (as measured by circulating blood ketones, NOT urinary ketones which are merely excess calories getting excreted) then I am very interested to read it. Thanks.

Very well written MS. One thing that i do know from experience is that Aspartame personally screws me over. I know a lot of guys who would drink one or 2 diet cokes while in the Induction Phase of Atkins and did perfectly fine, but for me it just isn't happening.

Once i cut the Aspartame out of my diet, my weight loss resumed and i stopped feeling so dizzy.

As far as the study's, i don't think that anyone has done one yet, but i wish they would. I'm not the only one in a large group of people who have been set back by Aspartame. I just wish we had something more solid to go on than our personal experiences.
