Peeps who've used Retin-A.

Dermatologist prescribed me some a while ago. Been using it for about ... 4-5 weeks now? Probably more towards the latter.

Anyway, after about 3 weeks it looked like it was starting to work pretty well. Skin was clearing up some. But, it's beginning to look worse again?

wtf?

I hate having such shitty skin. I want this bullcrap to clear up for good. Help me out bors.

This is the common time table for this medicine. The reason you are supposed to use it for as long as it says is because of the 'levels' it goes through. The first four weeks it clears up the superficial/existing infections you have. The next four - six weeks it brings hiding infections to the surface to fight them. After that you'll see it clear up again (if it works for you). Your doctor should have informed you of how long it really takes for this medicine to work completely. As far as the Accutane... I wouldn't recommend it unless it is a LAST resort. The side effects of Accutane are far more risky than facing a bad skin day, IMO. There are other products that do work without the side effects. ProActiv and Murade make topical products that are less irritating on the skin. While I was growing up I was a Dermotologist's dream... I was a labrat for a lot of crap that never worked out the way it was supposed to. Diet adjustments, creams, antibiotics, home remedies, herbs, etc. (Ok this is where it starts to sound like an infomercial) I've been using ProActiv for over 5 years now and I'm more than happy with it.

TREATING acne isn't an overnight process. If you have acne, you HAVE acne... there is no cure.

Thanks for that info dirty~d. Apparently my jerkoff derm. didn't tell me all that. But, I kept using it after I started the oral antibiotics. And, as I said, after I came off, I began breaking out again, even when still using the Retin-A. So I would think it has no effect on me?

If you feel it's worth it then try finishing what the doctor gave you. By the end of the 12 weeks you will be able to tell if it worked for you or not. If you don't feel that it's going to make a difference then stop using it. The red, dry skin sucks. If you're willing to try using something that you'll have to use every day for a while that is easier on your skin, I really would try ProActiv if I were in your shoes (again). I wish I had started using it sooner than I did.

I hope that helps sweetie. Misbehaving skin can get annoying, but don't let it frustrate you. There are things that work. :)

topical anti-b's like clidomycin aren't bad at all and you can use them for pretty long periods of time without developing too much of an immunity.

bump

FZ, anything new?

Anything else worth trying? I have mild acne( Im 20) that is pissing me off.

Gonna pick up some zinc and possibly some generic pro activ and see how that works.

Retin A made my face look like it was sun burned all the time. Accutane worked best got rid of it forever.

I too used Accutane 2 years ago. Did wonders for my skin. I never really had many pimples but I'd always get red splotchy acne all over the sides of my cheeks and chin. Accutane did away with all of this. Since being off of Accutane a little over 2 years I rarely ever get a zit and my face looks almost baby smooth.

All I have is a few little scars left over, about what Brad Pitt had before he had them removed, but they are harldy noticeable.

Shit, my face has broke out like crazy this last week.

I really want to do accutane but afraid of the side effects.

What else can I try before accutane?

BTW, Im taking milk thistle, and zinc. Doesnt seem to be working.

get on accutane.. shit rocks bro...

i never had bad ance or even where I was pissy about it just i could never be totally clear/... see a dermotoligst and start a low dose and work up from there ... start at 40 mg ed and work up.. nothing comes close accutane results.. nothing

get on it now and be clear in a few months... side effects are overstated. dry lips is about it
