i just see the benefit to having a strong middle eastern presence.
i realize that oil is not that important to you, but to me and the majority of society it is. so i support ways to gurantee our source of oil. very similiar to a strong usa euro presence, good politics

I beleive Cheney is that powerfull, sure. He pressures Tenet and his CIA to twist intelligence to fit his agenda - I don't think that's anywhere outside the realm of the power that man wielded... not even close. In fact, Tenet has more or less said that's what happened. That they were pressured to pass intelligence on knowing that it would be misrepresented by politicians.

I beleive Colin Powell resigned for this same reason, he was pressured into presenting bad intelligence and or misrespresenting intelligence to the UN and to the public and when he found out - he was pissed off enough to leave the administration.
