pancreas nightmare again

saw my doc today, did some blood work and is gonna do a few procedures to determine if I have developed an ulcer and if my pancreas is shutting itself down. did a blood etst to see if my pancrease is non reactive which he explained means the organ is dieing. i am having major problems with weight loss and stoamche pains, nausea etc after eating and he feels its my pancrease shutting itself down.

he mentioned on the back burner is a transplant as a last ditch measure if the organ dies and he was opposed to cutting nerve endings to help with the pain as he says they grow back and they become less effective each time you have this done. gave me pain killers which i already have and i laughed when he told me they are easy to become addicted to as what other alternatives does one have to daily pain??

any way just bummed and venting here as this was a shitty day.

LOL! the Title of this posts sounds funny bro!! Honestly I feel for you and wish you the best. That would suck living on insulin shots the rest of your life....

he never mentioned insulin. if it was removed that maybe the case but transplanted ??

i know the pancreas secretes insulin and glucagon...

so that would be two drugs a day, i guess you could mix them but i cant remember for the life of me what glucagon does, something to do with fatty acid metabolism maybe???

i cant remember if it controls anything else like anti diuretic hormone...

anyway, what i am getting at is, if its just insulin and glucagon, i would consider losing it and not getting a transplant due to the nastiness of anti-rejection drugs...

if I have a transplant the rejection scares me. That is a very big risk and could end up with very bad results. i did some research today and saw 1 hospital that has done 150 transplants in a year but most where dual transplants of kidney and pancreas. i just hope i don't get to that point. he has me on a stong enztme (3 per meal) to help break down food and releave my pancreas but in the past these have not worked for me.

Glucagon might be considered to be an antagonist of insulin. Insulin builds up a store of glycogen in your body using glucose. Glucagon breaks the glycogen down when you need to increase your blood sugar levels.

Hope this works out for the best Flexed1.

Constant pain or two shots a day. You have to make a choice here and not one overnight. Make your final decision and then sit on it for a while. Make sure you fell the same way a week later about your choice.

Did they even tell you what might have caused this?

I am so sorry to hear about your suffering....

I don't know what to say to comfort you... except that I hope that you will be well soon.

You're a good guy...

Praying for you and hope that your week gets a little better! Hang in there. I know it's hard when you don't know what the heck is going on with your body!!

no idea what is caused this. last 2 1/2 years many know have been stays every month and a half or so in hospitals with attacks. last year on a hormone which appears to keep attacks down as i actually went 2 1/2 months with no hospital stay until a few weeks back. went to one of the world leading specialist last year in Indiana and he was the one who put me on this hormone and told my doc here about it. nobody knows why as there is a very small percent of unknown cases. I don't drink and though my blood sugar drops often its a side of my drug not an insulin or diabetic issue. don't know just sucks.

hope you have some good coverage =/ this could get pricey too :(
