Is it just in my city or are other places plagued with this too?

If you cant take care of thier own physique what makes them think they can help others? Also i never see them doing any basic exercises. Always some bs exercise ball shit. Sorry just my rant for the day....

I was at my daughter's 4th grade awards Tuesday and the elementary gym teacher is swelling up like a whale. I always get a chuckle out of that.

Yeah gym teachers arent setting the example like they need to lol. Theres some butterballs here that hold these "fitness boot camps" and for the life of me I cant see why lol. Im in one of the nations fattest cities an its sad... No one here is educated or has will power an dedication. They cant make time for the gym but they always have time to eat out or hit the bars

It's everywhere man....it's everywhere. I think they pick them overweiht so clients sympathize...I mean, it's gotta be a trend.

In reality it shouldnt be a problem if he/shes is qualified.
How many good doctors smoke?
How many good high school guidance counselors are the epitome of success?
How many good financial advisors arent exactly rich?
How many good US presidents inhaled?

PT's are mostly sales people.. thats the bottom line. there are good ones out there, but if the good ones cannot sell then they won't make it in the business.

the ones that I respect have built a clientale through word of mouth and even give free sessions with people who cannot afford it because they know those will spread the word. the ones who I see in the gym at 5am and also at 8pm. the ones that look good themselves.

Dont think "qualified" means enough anymore. All these bs certification programs. I mean really, you go to a 2 day course an now you know enough to train others? Half these people cant train themselves.

I believe in leading by example. I havent been a trainer full time since 1997, but if I remember right most of the trainers were in shape back then. Hell I pretty much lived at the gym back then. Kept my meals in the fridge an everyone gave each other support.

I know theres some good ones out there that really know thier shit an it shows. Just not as many any longer. Least not here. There needs to be a higher standard so it weeds out the bad ones an encourages more good ones to stick around.

When i say qualified i mean more than just a bs certification paper. Education and experience matter most. I think people confuse being a qualified trainer with being able to sell personal training, which obviously involves looking the part.

LMAO that's why my bidness is growing so much these days, niggas look at me and say I wanna look like you, and then I tell them how.:)

I'm natural

Most people are fat these days. Not everyone wants to hang out with mr. 6 pack 5% bf every day. Lot of soccer moms like PT who are more representative of what they can become.

See there^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ this is why I'm the hottest trainer on EF. Save the soul and God gives you abs.

I agree with the theory that the trainer's own physique shouldn't matter, and in fact they might have health issues that make it impossible to be fit, while it might still be their passion. But aesthetically, I would go to a trainer who LOOKS the way I want to look and feel. Would you hire a housekeeper who shows up in an abused car with dirty windshield, and back seat full of food wrappers? I wouldn't, because I'd assume she'd stuff food wrappers under rugs, and probably bang up the furniture with the vacuum, and then leave the vacuum cord all kinked up, and spill toilet cleaner on the rug, etc etc.

Would you rather have an out of shape person that has spent years studying and learning tons and tons of information and can pass all of the knowledge along to you and give you all the facts and training that you need to know to better your life (even though for whatever lifestyle reasons or choices they never followed this stuff themselves) or some skinny or in-shape person that got that way because of a fast metabolism and the fact that they played soccer in high school but dont know anything realistically other than the BS basic manuals that they read to get certified?

I agree with the OP. If you know how to do it, and understand the importance of it, then fuckin do it. Don't preach the importance of being fit and healthy and how much you love helping people reach their fitness goals and get fit if you're a fat dude.....seriously

yeah man, i just couldnt do it, drives me nuts listening to some fat fuck at the gym offer advice. maybe he is smart and qualified. i just dont care

PT isn't just about being skinny and fit. For a lot of people it's about rehab, flexibility, and wellness. I've only seen maybe 3 fatass PT's in my life, but I see plenty that are in great shape but not all lean and diced.

just cause someone is fat doesn't mean they don't have the knowledge to train someone. it's their job..they don't have to like it or practice what they preach to be effective at it.

maybe they used to be a huge fitness buff early on in their life, became a trainer, and got burned out on training themselves? it's still a source of income, so no reason to stop doing it.
