. It was so embarrassing I made it my goal to be able to do at least a set of 10. I can proudly say it's the first exercise I do for back now. First set is 12 reps. From there I will do (3)weighted sets(up to 35lbs.) for 8-10 reps.I'm now up to twenty reps for my first set @ 240 lbs and add a 45lb plate for reps of five after my first set.JavaGuru said:I'm not over 250 but at 240 I can do 12 for my first set. The key is to build up with ladders. Do a single, rest a minute then do two, rest a minute and do three. You get the picture. Before I really tried to improve them I could do two or three reps tops.
Thanks, I started doing two's and threes about three years ago. It was just embarassing being 240 lbs and not being able to do twelve chins so I made it a goal.milo hobgoblin said:Java thats some incredible back strength.. espeically for a overgrown computer nerd.![]()

I can do ten pull ups on my first set and tehy are definitely harder for big guys. In high school I could crank out twenty like nothing and in wrestling I was able to "walk the peg board", watch Vision Quest if you don't know what I'm talking about.gjohnson5 said:Ooh , let me clarify
Chins are reverse grip and are generally much easier for a heavy guy as it's a bicep excersize
Pull ups are a straight grip and are genreally a back excersize
Started my last back day with pull ups and cranked out twelve on first set, chin over bar and 95% lockout on bottom. My last weigh in, a week ago, was 242 lbs.gjohnson5 said:Ooh , let me clarify

cash50 said:Harder for big guys?? That's definitely an excuse. If you don't do them ever you won't get better at them. I can do 27 (without weight) and normally just do 2 sets of 20 everytime I work out (one overhand, one underhand).

Strength isn't linear to bodyweight.cash50 said:Harder for big guys?? That's definitely an excuse. If you don't do them ever you won't get better at them. I can do 27 (without weight) and normally just do 2 sets of 20 everytime I work out (one overhand, one underhand).
