on my way to North Dakota looking for work... any connects hit me up...

Im so fucking bad, what is life without?

Haha, that's why the big companies are gay to work for...i dont do drugs.....lol

drug abuse in the oilfield is huge in the US. You show up on a rig right now to do a random drug test and the crew will just walk off the job, go to the next rig.

Knew someone that went out to a rig the other day and it was sitting there with the bit off bottom just rotating. Not a soul around.

Also, had a high school kid here that went to work for a small roustabout company that did not drug test. He said for 1 hr before every job, his crew sat in the truck and smoked weed. I told him to get the fuck out of there before he died.

This work is dangerous enough with your head clear.

Moya,

I think you are making a wise decision and if you gut it out, will be much better off financially in the long run. It is not just important that you get out there and make a higher wage but also that you learn the industry. In 1927 my Grandfather moved from his parents 800 sq ft house in West Virginia to Texas to follow the booms as a driller. Within a few years he had his own drilling company and withing 20 yrs he was a wealth oil producer. If you are committed to learning this industry and have a passion for it, you will eventually make a fortune somewhere - just need to see yourself beyone a laborer. You have already proven ambition to get out there and find a job.

Before you take off, check websites for the big service companies. All of them post their jobs online and you have to apply there first.

Also, if you can, get your CDL. Truck drivers are in major demand and you can earn $100k if you have a license there and the work is much safer.

Lastly, if you can get on a job that pays a bonus for quantity, go for it. There are entry level guys that made $300k last year because they had a job # bonus.

i got a CDL class B, a BA (worthless i know), and a sound work history (same employeer the last 5 yrs)
would this benefit me in the oil bizz? or no

for sure... you move up in the qeueu for all jobs requiring a truck to be driven to location. Plus, oil and water haulers are just flat out of drivers. Most are paying sign on bonuses to get you started.

Even if you just drive a truck in an oilfield area your wages will get pulled up for this. Like beer and soft drink haulers are dying here because all the drivers are in the oilfield.

Get your hazmat cert.

got it along with my tanker endorsement.
also got hazmat ops and awarness certs...
i'm happy were i'm at but always eager to see what else is available, esp not having to break my back and sleep on dirt all summer long
