older doesnt mean wiser

jesus...i'd say that beats crimson on the "almost dying scale" for sure

why not some safty pins or something?

cause im a fucking moron!

i usually fall backward when i bail. i gained too much weight this time around and my suit was hella tight.

live (or die) and learn i guess. wanted to share with all you.

OFFICER FRIENDLY SAYS "put your safety pins in"

HOLY SHIT!

That was the first thing I noticed watching the vid. Thought, hey, there's no pins there. Where's the bar gonna go?

Glad you're not hurt!

Tommy,

Now remind me again why they used Russell Crowe in Gladaitor and not YOU!!!!

2 things

#1 Good thing for all those Heavy GM's you do, or your back could have been seriously injured.

#2 As perhaps foolish as it was to not have safety pins in, I'm thinking, your mind simply tells your body you have to own this lift , there is no safety net here, MAKE IT OR DIE.

I'm glad your OK.

Peace,
Mike

You have got a really strong lower back! You technique looked solid, but you just couldn't get out of the hole. You will someday be able to push this weight without a problem. I am glad you weren't injured. Keep up the good work!

Hmm. well I have some thoughts.

1st thing that comes to mind is I am glad you did not die. Scarey stuff there, even for the monster from the great northwest. Glad you are OK.

2nd. I know it has been said before, but it bears repeating. Safety pins are there for a reason. I honestly don't know why we don't squat in a crepinsek monolift rack in meets. Seems like it would be much safer.

3rd. scarey for the spotters there too. I got in trouble re-racking 650 after a high box squat one time, cause I had the j-hooks too high and did not take bar bend into account, and managed to get one side racked but not the other side. Did manage to injure my spotter tho in the whole ordeal.

But my ordeal would have been way worse if I had not put up the damn pins. I ended up dumping it on the pins, not much fun, but better than what you had to go through. I am so glad you are OK.

Been there, done that, only mine was using 315 on a set of 20 rep squats and I was using a squat rack with safety pins. On the 19th rep, I couldn't get the weight up, and just fell forward into the pins. Oh yeah, and I managed to herniate my l4-l5 disc in the process. I was 18 at the time, before I started doing any posterior chain work, so I had a weak back.

Anyway, you are lucky for having a reliable guardian angel and being built as solid as Fort Knox. Stay safe and strong.

Peace.

Thanks for staying alive buddy! We dont use pins either when max sqautting. So your video will be a "dumping REAL weight 101"!! I have done that before with 675 a couple yrs ago. So i do not know what its like to bail with any real weight. It must have felt slow motion! Scary shit.

Hey Irishpower what are you using on speed day for your squats?looks like the suit tightened or locked up right before parallel causeing you to go forward. glad your ok.

thanks

everyone for the well wishes! i am alive and kicking. i have another heavy squat work out planned for next friday. maybe i'll get a 3rd spotter :)

DBCooper: i have a couple of questions for you. my speed weight has been 325, 375, and 415 this whole training cycle. i have alternated bands and 3 - 5 chains.

Yes, I got larger this cycle and the suit felt like it was choking me. I have a love hate with the canvas and the westside stance. I will shoot you a PM.
