OK Training Trip and PRs

Oklahoma Training Trip and PRs

We finally got to meet some EF peeps on our trip to Oklahoma City and then Tulsa this weekend, and it was as awesome as I was hoping.

Superwife and I first met up with VDOP and red_evil in OK City, who took us in, fed us, and showed us how to bench :). They were awesome. I hit 245 on bench - a 20 pound PR!

Then we headed over to Tulsa and met a bunch of other people including spatts, IronLion, Hannibal, Benchmonster, S/B/S, and probably others I'm forgetting right now (sorry!). Wow what a great group.

IronLion and spatts were extremely nice and showed us how to deadlift. I hit 275 and I think with some work on my form I could hit 315 by the end of the year. Anyway that was a 140 pound PR (of course I never really tried to max before since I just started deadlifting :) ).

Thanks again to everyone we met!!

It was SO nice to meet both of you. I hope you can meet us in Tulsa more often, and that you will make use of the resource you have in VDOP and red_evil.

I'm sorry I wasn't more help early on, regarding the squats. I had been meaning to spend time with both ironlion and Gorrell on my squat form, so I felt like I needed to take it before Jim left.

It was cool to see him squat 900 in training yesterday, when he just maxed at that in a comp a few months ago. I wonder what he has up his sleeve for his next meet!

Thanks for letting me help you out with the deadlifts. You both seem to have an affinity for the "demonstrate then duplicate" idea.

it was great to have you guys along. you both put out a tremendous effort. and it's always great fun to pass on what little we've learned.

i'm looking forward to next time.

Just noticed when looking through my notes that I also hit 245 for a triple on the 2 board, so I really need to work on the bottom part of the lift (since I barely got it up for a single without boards). We'll definitely hit those rolling db extensions and shrugs and floor presses so we can hit PRs again when we see you :)

Yeah we definitely like the "demonstrate then attempt to duplicate idea" (paraphrasing :) ).

No problem - glad you got help on your squats. I do have a question about that though. It seemed Scott was saying something about keeping your elbows back so that you could place the bar lower (that seemed to make sense to me, though I didn't hear everything said since I was doing other stuff and just listening to half of your conversation).

However, bigguns (and i've heard others mention this) just posted about keeping her elbows under the bar... what was your resolution on this?
