Ok Car Nerdvigs... What do you guys think of BMWs?

Overpriced hype?

No better than a Lexus?

Why not a benz?

Discuss.

I need some input. I'm days away from ordering a new Range Rover.

Oh look at me, Im considering a BMW while pulling the trigger on a Range Rover

I like Beamers...I'm getting an Aston Martin next year

Buy a diesel like a man you poosie

good call!

2013 Porsche Cayenne Diesel offers monster torque, 28 MPG HWY

  • "The 2013 Porsche Cayenne is very pricey, but it's also very desirable given its standing as one of the finest SUVs on the planet." -- Edmunds
  • "Unless your heart demands the adrenaline rush of a Cayenne Turbo, the new Cayenne diesel warrants serious consideration for those shopping the luxury SUV market. The diesel price premium is minimal, while the upsides in fuel economy and power are excellent." -- AutoWeek
  • "It faces stiff competition from the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz M-Class and, to a lesser extent, the larger Audi Q7, none of which can match the wide-ranging list of positives offered by the Porsche Cayenne." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "It's fast, huge fun to drive, and it sounds far more aggressive than any other version of the German SUV. Add in the fact that it looks considerably bolder thanks to the new wheels and Turbo-inspired body parts, and the GTS begins to look like the coolest way to configure a Cayenne." -- Automobile Magazine

if a car i'd go like audi s8, or Mercedes cls63amg

Yeah both of those are great cars. My buddy has a CLS 63 AMG.
Just retarded buying a new on though.

Or really pimp and get a Bentley.

Here's my take:

1) No cars that can't get service here in Knoxville. I'm doing that now with a second car, and it's miserable.

2) Intellectually I realize that Lexus is probably the best value.

3) I love SUVs because I can sit up over the road. I'm looking at a 2013 Supercharged Range Rover

4) I did a perfunctory test drive of a BMW 750 (the didn't have a 760). Rode like a dream, but I wonder if I'm not ready for an old man's car.

5) Then I saw the BMW M6... wow. That's probably in first place now.

6) I know I should check out MB, but for some reason I perceive it as an old man's car (I know, silly).

So what am I missing?

If you drive a BMW, no one will ever give you a break in traffic. Everyone will just assume that you're a douche. But they're good enough to put up with the stigma.

In Europe, Audi is kind of taking over the douchebag stigma from BMW, but I don't think that widespread hatred of Audi drivers has taken hold in the US yet.

An M6 would be completely wasted unless you're an experienced performance driver. You'd be better off with a 650i or even a 540i.

Lexus is for people who don't care about cars.

I have a Viper and a Duramax Diesel. Nice looking but compared to the ride of our Beamer is night and day

Wut personality is the RR for

BMWs probably have the nicest ride out of any of the German luxury sedans. You can tell that they put painstaking detail into how the torque band affects the driving experience. The ride is super refined - the cars extremely well balanced weight wise (notice how the front and rear brake rotors are nearly the same size - not common with most cars). That being said, its not uncommon to deal with minor annoyances like lack of cupholders, strange intermittent issues with electrical systems (not everyone gets these). At least the service warranty covers everything. You would probably experience more issues with the Range Rover from a reliability standpoint.

The Mercedes feels like a heavier car and looks like it appeals to a slightly older crowd. Ive heard that Mercedes has the highest reliability of German cars.

Audi - I cant say much about them except they are gaining steam. The interiors have a gaudiness to them that feels slightly American car to me. Might be worth a test drive.

3 or 1 serious be my choice. Bmw out performs lexus and is better handling lighter car than mercedes typically. Mercedes is usually bigger and heavier but more motor.

if you guys are going to argue otherwise then throw in some justification and be helpful.

Faggots.

I wonder if Plunk has considered the big Jaguar? I mean, he already has a relationship with the mechanic... Jags ride smooth, if smoothness is his primary concern.

Lol
I wish they still made my car. To me it's a fucking blast, I smoke cars and motorcycles. It looks a little old school but the only problem I have had is a broken motor mount and differential bushing.

The best part is when I am driving my girls to school and they are laughing at the guy getting his ass beat by a car. They are 13, 11 9 and 7. Thank goodness I never have to go over 75.
But seriously I think that's adds insult to losing. .

And my car can't beat 4.1 0-60 so it's not retarded fast. But for a four door sedan it's killer.

Comparing an 8.0L V10 race car to the smoothness of a german luxury sedan is retarded.

Part of the purposed allure of the viper is to feel raw and brutally fast.

I've driven a Viper, and have a V10 BMW M5 and they are so completely different machines in every single way.

The M5 feels smooth as glass at any speed up to 170 mph. The viper sticks just fine at high speed, but it was more like driving a stiff go-cart past 120.

From a suspension standpoint, the viper handles significantly better because it weighs about 800 lbs less, but the M5 just drives exactly how you want, and does it so smooth and comfortably where the viper feels raw and unchained.

My wife wants me to look at the big Jaguar. My next door neighbor has one and it looks great.

Sick, a guy I know in the trash business (executive) he has one, looks like that but a bit newer, black and factory done up with low profiles.
So badass

I have heard that a lot with the electrical issues. It's purely anecdotal but anyone I know with a BMW spends seemingly more time in the shop.

Kind impossible seeing as how that's a 2013

love mine, buying another for the summer ... but i trade every 2 yrs or so... so i might not be the person to ask.. as for the benz...

same pricing basically, but the bmw has a 10 yr warranty against rust..

and i'm not willing to admit to being that old.. it's like buying and driving a Cadillac, i'm just not old enough yet

Yep. That car is a pain in the ass. However, it does provide good trade in value. I'm going to a get a "Japanese" car.

What is it with you and ultra pussy toyota cars pick?[/QUOTE]

I traded-in a Chevy Malibu for it

I buy both import and domestic fgt cars

The RR is uncomfortable as hell after about 1.5 hours driving.

No SUV is going to compete with a premium sedan in terms of comfort

Just for giggles I'll put this out there:

The current generation Buick LaCrosse is one of the quietness most comfortable sedan out there at any level

that's right even vs Lexus, MB, and vs other GM's, e.g. Cadillac

Really? I think mine is extremely comfy...wonder if the interior update included the seats?

It's a 2007 -- far from state-of-the-art.

I obviously don't have that many issues with it, since I've driven it this long (100k+ miles).

I drive 35 mins into work (and another 35 mins back) and typically have to do at least a few downtown/airport trips per week. That's what has got me thinking about something really cushy (i.e. 750/760).

But at 45, I'm thinking my years of fun car driving are coming to an end. Maybe I do one last fling with an M6. My Maranello has been a service disaster here in Knoxville.

Fuck it go with the m6...it's not like you can't afford to get something different if you change your mind in a couple years.

whats wrong with the 5 series?

dont get me wrong, the M6 and the 6 series in general are awesome. Someone here had one, drove it and was impressed...

The M5 looked pretty cool. I should take a fresh look at it as well.

Well that's settled. Plunkeys getting an m6 and pick3 is still dreaming of the day he can get a Buick lacrosse

Pick3 is still giving hummers in exchange for rides between Cutter's and Walmart.

nissan's (honda's, toyota's, etc.) last just as long and parts, routine maintenance and mechanics hourly rates are a LOT cheaper...you wanna buy into the hype? know yo self out, yo...

had my 528 for 2 yrs now, drive the shit out of it.. what's nice is if i have the oil changed, or in once case a shock went out, they drive a car to my house as a loaner for the day, and take mine, return it washed and fixed same or next day..

so in the shop?? no not so much and if it goes, i'm taken care of..

considering a benz, but probably not...

and by the way.. ARE YOU FUCKING NUTS???

I'll pay $38k for a 2 yr old bmw 5 series.. but I'm not pissing away that much money for a car.. m6... who the fcuk are you trying to impress.. at that much money i can build up a faster better car..

Still won't be an M6 tho...

make sure you get your BMW custom built in Germany and shipped. you save money that way not having heated seats or some other bullshit that you don't need.

also you won't have to worry about it being built in SC.. i've had 5 BMW's ... 4 of them i loved. the 1 that i had problems with was from SC. the other 4 were custom built from Germany.. that makes a huge difference.

i have the 3 series ECO manual now. if i am on flat surface highway going 55 i get 50+mpg. going 80 I get 32mpg. can't beat it. stop and go traffic i even average mid 20's.. and if you want to drive it hard you can switch it over to sport mode if you want.

best car i ever owned. 0 issues with it and i've had it a year.

also like spy said you even drop it off for the day to get oil changed or whatever they will give you a loaner to drive around so you don't have to wait there. what i'll do is drop it off on friday and pick it back up monday and keep the loaner all weekend.. only thing you pay for is getting the tires rotated every 15K miles.. no hassle at all. i'm sticking with them until they piss me off..

also i have driven the M's and they are frankly overrated for their price. unless you are gonna take it to the track and race with it I don't see the point of owning one. in my state you get pulled over going 100mph you go to jail end of story. so not like you can make use of it.

didn't think I'd move Plunk from a high end German vehicle to a Buick

butt, you are all in dream land if you think that high performance coupe will deliver the quietness and long haul comfort as that big Buick

just sayin'

3 series BMW's are for highschool girls

lol its confirmed you don't know shit about luxury cars for making that statement.

its far from a girlie car. stick to show cars bro.

you do realize the new 3 series body is the exact same as the 5 series right? there are 3 body frames you can get.

you must be thinking of the 3 series from years ago

i don't know SHIT about cars, but I do know about BMW's.. been driving them for 12 years

it is in fact a bitch car...

I'm more of a 760 myself, but their idrive is gay as fuck and their interiors or behind the times IMO

^^^^ thats your opinion, 3 series is a 4 door luxury german sedan. its ample enough for a single guy and you know it.. .. the X i would get but the gas mileage is shit and I drive a lot .. its 22 miles to and from my gym everyday.

the 7 series is as much as a downpayment on a nice ass house, not gonna spend that kind of money on a car.

the idrive i don't like. they need to upgrade that.. they did upgrade a lot though in the past couple years.

its a german car so they always include atleast 1 retarded thing. thats mandatory
