The problem with the dead baby pictures is it lowers the argument to an instinctual, visceral level. What seperates our species from the other primates is our ability to throw aside the emotional and look at the rational. BB and I were both arguing the pro-life viewpoint via logic and ethics. When you posted those pics I am saddened that I argued a similar viewpoint.
My own admission on the issue is that I "grew" to lean more onto the pro-life side with life experience and rational exploration. Like you RG, we question, thats what I meant with this thread.
I was as a young man, told of overpopulation then I hear of underpopulation. I realize that things are transient and no good cause to make such a permanent decision.
I have met loads of great friends who were adopted that I valued that I would have lost out on if the parents were convinced by pro-abortionists that killing their life would have been the best route. I mean stretchmarks on a mother that she'll get no matter what with age seems trivial when you have met great nonaborted people.
The reason why Im not rabbid antiabortion, is that I have many people that I know who have had an abortion, and THEY are great people too. Circumstances can only be judged in the best sense and went on to make great parents.
Merely questioning the ethics and morality of abortion in a logical exploration, not looking back to blame those who made that decision they forever have to live with. A cross I cannot ever bear.
The issue of whether it is right and wrong must take in the account of the person's experience as it was or is.
I was well, its just tissue, evacuate it, but then working in neonatal rotation for three months gowning up, masking up and such and all the work we take to keep viable lives alive, bacteria covers, all of that to provide the best opportunity for that human life. Seems so ridiculous when a woman can say, Im too busy with work, or I dont want stretch marks just quite yet or go through child birth. Well I dont want to wash my hands every five minutes and gown and glove up and such walking in there, but thats just what you do when you are in that situation.
Dont want to be in that situation. Take personal responsibility.
The question I posed is it actually worse than a woman to have five abortions as opposed to just one?? Compare and contrast to a person who is the agent who takes that life.
That was the assignment. It was not to google shock photos of dead babies, Ive seen far worse and can post horrific medical images that would make the strongest of people tear up and or at least question God.
This was an exercise in reason, some engaged, some watched, some learned, some surprised me like musclemom, some scared me as to how much we think alike. Some made me laugh. But, in order to explore these debates, come to a consensus, moving above and beyond graphic pictures of dead fetuses, not appealing to the lowest common denominator in everyone, means that we can elevate the discussion.
To where we can all learn and grow from the experience.
I once asked in this thread when does life begin hoping to wrap this thread up with my usual joke.
But then having to address posting of pics of dead fetuses, the images, dont shock me, Ive been inside of people, blood all over me, watched people die, had people die maybe b/c I was late to get there a la ten weeks ago that I mentioned here.
But the issue is this, when discussing in a debate. Use your noodle, use your brain.
When does life begin was the question I raised
"The real question today is not when human life begins, but, 'What is the value of human life?' The abortionist who reassembles the arms and legs of a tiny baby to make sure all its parts have been torn from its mother's body can hardly doubt whether it is a human being."
oh yeah, I just drank some beer
