Interesting. I live at the beach and I can't say I've ever smelled or noticed anyone smoking. For that matter, I've never seen any butts put out on the beach. Maybe NY beaches are less respected. I was a fan of the move in bars because it meant not coming home smelling like an ash tray but I think pushing this to public open spaces is overboard and I doubt they can get the measure to pass.

on the other hand, i'm glad that less smoking will occur.

I fully support it. People have the ability to smoke in their own homes. No need to smoke around other people especially when its been proven that you are actually doing harm to those who surround you.
