Numbness

anthrax

MVP
EF VIP
After saturday's leg workout (I also tried a stupid stuff and fall back on my back), my left quad is a bit numb

It's not really painful
It's not DOMS

More like a pinched nerve w/o sharp pain

What can it be ?
and what should I do ?

Thanks in advance

this drawing is a little off...but if you were to say which zones have the numbness what would they be (i.e. L1-L3 = above the knee)...

test the zones out by closing your eyes, touching a piece of cotton wool to your sternum and then on each side for each zone, front and back of your legs and see if both sides are equal in intensity to the sternum

it MIGHT be a nerve you trapped or impinged on your back while squatting...any limp foot or weakness in any of your feet?

and most important for acute problems any numbness in your buttocks (both of them, like a saddle), and any difficulty urinating or pooping? I know you didnt complain of any of this and therefore may not have it but it cant hurt to ask, right? :)

either way if you DO have a numbness I would definately see a doctor, purely because he will be able to diagnose you more easily and be able to do the sensation test on you better and more fairly (you cant really do the test on yourself as your bias :D)

L2-L3 and partially L4

Nothing in the feet (I mean they are OK)
No problem urinating or pooping

and I was about to see my ART practitioner so I'll be able to ask him :worried:

Thanks for your help

whats an ART practicioner?

L4 and L5 are typically the spinal vertabrae that give the most problems back-wise but it can be any of them, I would definately have a DR check it out ASAP if i were you. chance are the nerve is impinged, whether something needs to be done acutely or not I dont know, im not a Dr

what have you taken? any paracetemol or Ibuprofen?

I didn't take anything because I was afraid that I could do something wrong if I no longer feel the pain

Anyway, I'm back from my ART session

It's a pinched nerve, probably due to my squat workout

I'm still alive :) though it was starting to scare the shit out of me

uhh, so these art guys have some degree of medical qualification, right?

it had to be something impinging on the nerve as thats where you have the numbness, but dd they do a proper examination? tested your power, reflexes, tone etc?

did they do a heel-toe scrape (babinski or plantar reflex) too........

either way im sure you're fine...what did they recommend? 4-6 weeks off plus ibuprofen for a couple of days?

I have the same thing in my arm a fair bit.

My right arm goes numb depending on how I'm sitting. It never used to do this.

I suspect that it has to do with the brachioradialus (sp?) nerve. Often getting numb in the arm results in numbness tothe ring finger and pinky running up the arm. In my case its the other 3 fingers and running up the arm.

I had speculation from a "doctor" who thought it might be the fact that lifting has either inflamed cartlidge, or made the muscle grow and is putting pressure on the brach. nerve.

Of course the doc's response (as it is to everything) is to "just lay off for a while" and don't work so hard. Less weight, and less reps. He thinks you shouldn't tax your body when lifting to the point of failure, or DOMS. What a compelte fucking idiot! I clearly need a second opinion.

numbness in the thumb, 1st and second (index and middle) fingers? affected by posture? and do you ever get it at any other time, for instance, night time or particular posture?

also you say it 'runss up the arm'...how far? and in both arms....the fingers you describe are median nerve distribution as opposed to the other pinkie and ring (ulnar)...so just curious....

Family doctors don't know shit about such things

Their "ibuprofen + rest" only answer may apply for old post menopausal ladies, not for us

As for my ART guy he asked me to raise my leg while adding resistance with his arm
and my "bad" leg was sooooo weak compared to the other one
