so i've asked quite a few single parents both male and female at the gym if they would date anyone with a kid. almost all of them flat out said no.... explain this to me. IMO it would be easier for the two to be involved with eachother because they'd have everything to talk about (parenting) and can make time for eachother via play dates and what not.... now excluding the fact that maybe they don't want to put their "bagage" on one another. why be a hypocrite about it??? i don't understand cause i don't have a kid. kinda odd when you think about it though

First off when you are a single mother THE LAST THING you think to do is have your kids socializing with *some random dude's kids* and if he were down for that you would question what is wrong with him. (This should go both ways)

Secondly there was about 2 years where I wouldn't date a guy with kids.

1. I wanted it all for MY kids. (Being 100% honest)

2. Was fearful that *I wouldn't be good enough* to mother another woman's children. <---THAT is very daunting.

Then I realized that whether the dude had kids or not did not have anything to do with the criteria that I found to be important when selecting a mate so I got over that.

The only thing that would be a big NO (for me) was if he was still in that "I hate women because my ex took me to the cleaners" stage. I had a negative ex of my own and didn't feel the need to go out and find yet another Mr Negativity to spend my free time with.

My husband is DYING to father my girls... and I am DYING for them to see what it is like to see their mother treated with love, kindness and respect so that they have a shot in life at choosing a man UNlike their spermdonor and more like the only father they will ever know - my husband.

But as I stated, dating a single mother is definitely NOT for ever guy. Any woman who would take offense to this is well, silly and would be best avoided by everyone IMHO.

And for the record - damaged goods is more like an adult of either gender that is 40+ and hasn't been able to commit to another human being yet.

Single moms aren't for everyone and one should be honest with oneself. I married my wife when I was 46 and she was 32 so we are past the issues of younger people.
