Not training legs

Anyone here simply not train legs at all? Quite frankly Im happy with my legs and dont want to expend anymore energy hitting squats or presses or anything else. Im happy with doing cardio and upper body only. Go ahead and flame but Im being practical for my goals.
How does this effect the grand scheme of things? (besides obviously legs not getting bigger, which i dont care)

don't quote me on this, but i have heard that your body can only be so far out of proportion (arms/legs)... If you don't work your legs enough, it can hinder your arm progress. Again don't quote me on this, but i remember reading it somewhere

I can stand to gain a lot on my arms and still have legs stay the same. legs are 7 inches bigger than arms currently.

what are you crawling into the coffin already? at least throw in a widow maker squat once a weak. squats are a must they are extremely helpful to the entire body.

a majority of newbie weight lifters always neglect legs when they first start training. the main reason is because, no one really sees their legs. but when their mass/weight gain stops, simply throwing in a few sets of heavy squats will break through that plateau. legs are the base of your statue, without a strong base, the tatue will fall. now go hit the squat rack and stop being "top-heavy"

Squats + deads = overall body development.

ok ok i will throw in squats but thats all lol
i cant be crippled for days on end after leg day and not be able to do cardio. im thinking overall health at this point.

lmao, thats a good excuse.

heres another good one- "the bigger my legs get the smaller my dick looks"

dont be a pussy... legs are hard work, but once you get used to moving some serious weight they dont have to be sore all the time... in fact, imo, the only reason a muscle gets sore is because it is unconditioned...
..."everyone wants to be a bodybuilder, but nobody wants to lift no heavy-ass weights"...
...not doing legs is like tapping out in the first round to a firm handshake...

well, at the risk of devil's advocate, why not front squats?

That way you can work legs w/o busting out the large weights. Add some lunges and something for hammies and you're done.

Then, mid-week, after doing your other stuff, do some light back squats, a few sets working up to 1 set of 5x75%-80%. Just because they're fun and will be good for your overall conditioning. Randy Couture will have nothing on your game.

:goatslaye

fortuneatesun, I was actually going to suggest just do some front squats and then standing calf raises too. Superset the calves with leg curls if you want but for hammies you should be DLing which hits them hard anyway...

You could get through that workout pretty quick and hit another muscles afterwards, like bi's, tri's, abs or shoulders.

If thats still too much and your still bein a pussy then you could drop the calf raises and do some hill sprints and jump rope for your cardio sometimes, that will take care of your health issue aswell as working the calves

guys i don't think any of you saw that

1. he is happy wit his legs
2. his legs are 7 inches bigger than his arms

i am not saying that he shouldn't work legs, i am just saying that based on what he said, i don't think he has to work them as hard especially if he's not motivated to.

duhh thats why everyone suggested smaller or shorter leg workouts, Legs being 7 inch bigger than arms really isnt that much out of proportion, my arms are 14 inch and Im pretty sure my legs are bigger than 21inch...

if he stops training them and just does cardio they will get smaller and weaker

Same here i dont wanna walk around like i have something up my ass for days and not be able to do cardio... the stairstepper for on cardio days keeps my legs in shape... of course i do calves though...

all you do for legs is stairstepper and calves? :FRlol:

I bet you dont deadlift either?

LOL @ this thread

superdave i wouldnt worry about working out your legs that often. It is important to keep what you already have though so keep doing squats, maybe just not 5+ sets.

Maybe we could answer better if we knew what your goals were? Do you want to lose strength in your legs? Do you just not want to get bigger but keep strength because cardio is more important?

Dude if cardio is more important do squats when you know you have couple days between the next cardio session. Squats are good for you though with overall body development

right maybe twice amonth:?

Ok since squats are the best overall leg exercise thats all im doing. 5 sets tops.

Me not doing legs is usually just doing squats and leaving the gym. I can't imagine what it would even feel like to have no trained legs and a trained upperbody. They would lose mass and strength eventually and you'd be unbalanced as hell.

My quads are 28" cold. Due to knee surgery I still cant squat because my patellar and quad tendons are weak still.
I'm dying to squat and super dave is bitching that he doesnt want to squat. Wheres the fucking justice in that?:chomp:

Ya exactly! I blew my knee out last march and would give my left nut to be squating :( I can't even do leg curls or e tentions it sux..... Deads an bench for me with all the inbetweens.... And some baggy ass shorts :0

My legs have been brick houses my whole life, never had any problems even back when i was squatting and pressing heavy shit. shoulders have been my crutch for years.

For your goals...I might just look at doing a couple warm up sets and maybe 1 semi-hard set. If your goal isn't HUGE or STRONG legs, then no reason to kill yourself. If cardio is your goal...do the leg work that you need to be healthy...and focus on your cardio. When I start bulking and getting fat, everyone likes to look at me and say "gosh Clint, you are getting fat, you look bad" as I think to myself "imagine, and I'm the only person that I know that makes progress year to year and still am leaner than they are in the Summer".

Know YOUR goals and live by them. You could do just fine with doing a set of 10 with 135 and one set of whatever reps you want with 225 and then moving on to some cardio. I might throw in a couple sets of calf work (safety around the calf and ankle joints) and maybe the occasional set of leg-press and leg curls or stiff legged deadlifts, and make sure that you are doing some abs and lower back work...but you should be fine for your goals.

No rip intended here but your legs are SUPPOSED to be a lot bigger than your arms. Do you realize how rediculous you would look if your arms and legs were the same size?

My legs are like 12" bigger than my arms, and my arms are around 21" right now.

Cheers,
Scotsman

5 sets can look like this:

1 set of front squats
2 sets of olympic squats
2 sets of Zercher squats

that's enough for hitting quads/glutes/hams PERFECT!!!

Ps: warmup sets are not included
